Regenerative food gardening in a (southern hemisphere) Mediterranean climate. Taking ideas from Syntropic Agroforestry, Permaculture, KNF, No-dig etc, and mix them all up into my own idiosyncratic style with a focus on building soil with microbes.
🌱 43.1 degrees, Merry Christmas 🫠
Canopy, diversity, nutrition = resilience #foodforest #permaculture

🌱Having a go at air layering a mulberry tree. First timer, so hopefully it will work 🤞

🌱 First autumn rain in Western Australia - seems so unfair that the east coast is drowning while we survive on very little 😢

🌱 Meet our lawn grub protection system 😁
#australianmarsupial quenda. He eats loads of grubs, allows water to infiltrate, spreads fungal spores with his digging and provides endless entertainment for small humans - what a hard worker! #permaculture #foodforest

I love this!
When I go for a walk I collect weed seeds to sprinkle around my garden. People think I'm mad 🤣

Saw this beautiful fellow in the garden last night - boobook owl looking for a yummy mouse or lizard

A very generous gardening gifter gave me a Red Dakka banana pup today - so excited for future bunches. Hope he likes my garden 🤞#food forest #permaculture

This is a little overwhelming for me, can you please remove me from the list?

This looks fantastic, I'd love to be included

🌱preparing for an extended heat wave 🥵
Hopefully my efforts to establish canopy and foliar feeding to minimize abiotic stress will protect my plant babies.

No, we just plug in the hose and brave it freezing cold - it's a great refresher in the heat

Love their smell but it's field mushrooms that take me back!
January 10, 2025 at 11:20 AM
Ha ha, id grow that!
January 8, 2025 at 10:39 AM
Absolutely! Growing soil is definitely my happy place

Oh cool! Sounds like my garden although I don't have Johnson -Su. Have you looked at the compost under microscope? Very exciting!
December 30, 2024 at 3:35 AM
Thanks for the suggestion, it's definitely a terrific system for building soil. I use a bokashi system for fermenting kitchen food waste & sometimes bury wood underneath the compost which I guess has a similar result 😁

Yes, it certainly looks poisonous! It's an Australian native bush tucker plant

🌱 "tomatoes need full sun" certainly not here they don't!
There seem to be many old gardening tropes handed down through the generations that we just accept without questioning.

Sounds like we have similar conditions. Our last couple of days have been over 40 degrees C so I have been foliar feeding to try to mitigate abiotic stress. Each year as the canopy grows the target trees become a bit more resilient. How do you manage the dry?
December 24, 2024 at 11:47 AM
Yes, it's also a brilliant dynamic accumulator - I use it a lot in weed tea. I am in Western Australia

It's fermenting kitchen food waste in an anaerobic system with effective microorganisms. Buried in ground it's amazing for soil improving & also supercharges compost
