Freelance photographer, shooting property for pay, and other stuff for fun. Trying to be generally creative in other areas. Doing some sketching. And whatever takes my fancy.
Well, it's about time I put something new on there - my first new item on Etsy for several years has just gone live.

Sketching from photographs Part 2
Well, I called my previous article 'part one' so it had to be done.

Hand-made concertina sketchbook, in which I’ve started a wee project I’ve had in mind. You’ll have to wait a while before seeing what’s developing inside. #sketchbook

I wrote some more words. About words. open.substack.com/pub/trevorco...
Have I really been "inspired"?
A subtle re-thinking of my use of that word.

When facing a blank page can seem daunting, here's something I've sometimes found helpful.

Little boxes, little boxes...
One technique for breaking through that "blank page" barrier.

Sketchy inspiration
And how looking at others' works can be both an inspiration and a distraction.

Good morning.

I've written something else. It's about why I've started a Substack.
How did I get here?
And what will I do now I'm here?

Know what's never made sense to me? Geography quiz questions about which place is "further east or west".

North or south, fine, as they have absolutes. But east and west just keep going round and round, so the answer is always dependent on where you start.

When my sketchbook remains untouched, I sometimes find myself doodling on scrap paper. These came out over a couple of sessions sitting at the computer while waiting for files to upload. Highlighters were close at hand.

Found myself wishing they were in my sketchbook. Glue was also close at hand…

I've seen a fair few "garden bars" in my time photographing properties, but this one beats them all.

From a truly extraordinary property photographed in Campton this week for Alexander Lewis Estates.

If you're tempted to buy mirrored furniture, let me mention two things.

(a) They must be pretty fragile; I see many of these with cracked tops or drawer fronts.

(b) When you sell your house, the photographer who comes for the estate agent will be quietly cursing your choice under their breath.

"This hour wasn’t ‘passing’. It was simply existing."

Time bends strangely when trying to be creative
How an exercise from "The Artist's Way" led to me composing sixty-five haikus in an hour that didn't feel like an hour.

It would appear that I have started to write on Substack.

This was not planned.

This evening I wrote some Haikus.

I wrote 65 haikus.

It was an interesting process. Maybe tomorrow I’ll explain why, and publish them somewhere.

Frank Turner - 1933

From his excellent 2018 album “Be More Kind”.

Feeling even more relevant seven years later.

A few tiny planets from the Stevenage Charter Fair last night.

The Ricoh Z1 doesn't do too well in low light.

Nice to see that the Stevenage flag brigade have so much respect for the flag that not only are a good number of Union Flags hung upside down, they’ve even managed it with a fair few of these.
