I join the country in mourning the passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson, D.C.’s former Shadow Senator and a tireless advocate for civil rights. As Jackson said, “Statehood for the District of Columbia is the most important civil rights issue in America today.”

1/ While today is Valentine’s Day, we also recognize the 208th birthday of Frederick Douglass, who our new state will be named after.

Republicans yet again want to pass a bill that will hurt working families of DC. Traveling the District, the stories people are telling have the same sentiments - this is not helping us at all. When I get to Congress, I’ll use my experience to fight back for DC voters!

I'm both shocked and not shocked at the same time.  I look forward to investigating this when I'm elected to Congress.
