Online when I’m conscious. Librarian, DM, storyteller, etc.
Hanging out at Funspot in NH while my husband plays in the New England Pinball League finals. Just played a ton of Tetris. Cause let’s face it, I’m predictable.

My parents have moved back into the house. This is fantastic in a lot of ways. Unfortunately it also means the heat is never set lower than 68 and I am melting at night.

Ice cold take: I think leaf blowers are stupid for small yards. Most suburban yards can be cleared with a rake perfectly fine. There is no need for a leaf blower if your yard doesn’t need its own postal code.

When someone is bold enough to leave a rude comment on one of my fics, alleging that I got a crucial fact wrong, they should at least have the guts to leave that comment so I can infodump the research I did that backs up the facts as I wrote them. Also, it’s Highlander. Relax.

Did you know that some types of aortic dissection can be treated with medication? I didn’t until today! Related: My dad is currently under observation while they treat him with meds for an aortic dissection.

I’m at work. My mom texts: “Update: we’re at the er. Your father has chest and back pain. No obvious heart issues. I’ll call you later.” I text back asking if she needs me to come join them, that I can leave immediately. “No. I’ll call later.” I picked the right week for a new therapist.

Our primary book vendor at work has been foundering for the past month and finally announced today that they’re shutting down. I am legit sad about this for a lot of reasons and I’m trying not to feel overwhelmed by it.

I have a very large task I need to do and it’s daunting and I keep avoiding it and I don’t know how to move forward.

I know it’s one of those things people don’t think about much but color contrast in signage and ADA compliance is one of my biggest pet peeves at work. Stop printing black text onto dark backgrounds! We are a government agency and it’s the right thing to do anyhow!

Marketing call I got today: “As school funding for these types of programs and curriculum is cut, more teachers are looking to public libraries to reach out and fill these gaps…” Do these folks think libraries aren’t facing cuts too?

Last year when my husband was in the hospital, he kept not getting breakfast because of needing to not eat before various scans. On his last day, he finally got breakfast: pancakes. Now our shorthand for having made it through something is that you got your pancake breakfast.

Covid finally got me. Of course during the last week of summer programs at work.

Spending the day watching LotR with friends and it’s exactly how I needed to spend my Saturday.

If I never hear the phrase “food noise” again it will be too soon.

Is the Subaru Baja a practical car for where I live and the life I lead? No. Is it a 20 year old car no longer being made? Yes. Would I hop on the chance to buy one if someone offered? Sure would. Am I interested in a new iteration? No. No I am not. Classic Baja or GTFO.

Likely unpopular opinion: those chocolate sculpture videos are cool and all but I can’t watch them because all I can think of is what is done with all those sculptures after? and how that chocolate is likely hard to reuse and the artistry is amazing but the medium feels wasteful.

I am on vacation this week and next but had to run into work to grab a book for my mother. Said hi to a coworker who said “Oh, are you in charge tonight?” And it was so nice to be able to say nope, I’m not on the clock.

Today I got to share a bit of nuclear/train trivia with my father that he didn’t already know! I am very proud of myself and happy to know that my father and I have such aligned interests.

So far at #ALAAC2025 I have gone to a fantastic small group discussion on equitable libraries, met a fantastic librarian from Qatar, made friends with librarians from Illinois, Maryland, and West Virginia, and snagged 6 ARCs and 4 tote bags.

I’m not into football but I find the business of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders fascinating from a labor rights POV. Texas-based performing arts organization focused Netflix show highlighting contract issues and a potential walkout in a sympathetic way? VERY interesting.
