Life hack. I made a small batch of pancake batter and put in a mason jar. Because, throughout the week, I may want A PANCAKE from time to time. Just one, occasionally. I wonder if I should add some baking soda?

Just realized that I randomly started burbling about Winston Churchill‘s portrait and mum, for no reason, w @actualkatherine.bsky.social because my brain was being massaged by green tea and coffee.

Snow prep. Yesterday I made it JUST in time to pick up ILL books from NYPL, and other hot reading matter because who knows what our streets will look like on Monday. And I attended that lovely, absorbing event at Lincoln Center which continues to nourish my senses many hours later. +

As dangerously cold temperatures move through New York, we have opened 10 warming centers across all five boroughs to provide safe, heated indoor spaces for New Yorkers in need.

Centers will be open through at least Monday evening at the following locations —>

It’s called hockey. If it takes place on a green, it’s field hockey.

I currently have an appetite for realtime news, listening to 1010 WINS from which source I hear that FIVE (5) people have met with death due to the snow storm. Oh dear. We in NY are so unprepared for snow, always. This type of snowfall being normal in some places. But not here...

My first exposure to the Thomas Ades piece "America: A Prophecy," Saturday night at NY Phil. I found the third verse (the revised part) moving. In light of events, you know... University of Michigan Chamber Choir was gorgeous to hear. playbill.com/article/comp...

Nurses are on strike while the CEOs of their hospitals rake in millions.

It was an honor to visit the picket line with @sanders.senate.gov and demand a fair contract for NYSNA nurses so they can get back to work.

In future, get into the habit of stocking up, as I do, so you can be one of the smug nesters who just goes into the freezer when there’s a snow storm…
My fellow New Yorkers, it's a snowstorm, not the siege of Stalingrad. Local butcher's case was practically empty; I literally got the last lamb they had save for two sad little rib chops. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01...

Have just learned that a ...reality TV show w the NYPD was filmed last year, and...WHAT? It's a relief to be rid of the previous admin, as revelations continue. I wonder about the details of that transaction.

My interview begins at 13m, but I recommend the earlier portion in which Rahcel S Parreñas is interviewed. No paywall, listen without logging in.

Good, keep speaking up, though it is a challenging era for sex workers. Takes a lot of integrity and courage these days to be out there...

Nothing against the Beckham fam, but mystified by the coverage. On @npr.org no less! What's the appeal? I will admit that son is victorious in PR war. I now know his mum is a shameless hussy w terrible boundaries. But isn't everybody's mum, at some point? Shameless? Expansionist? Yr #momma...😱

Too much emphasis on the individual this week. We live in an ailing society, the system is delusional and senile, but not dead. Individuals do make a difference, but they are symptomatic.

My current theory. Borrowing from Laing, not claiming to be original.

Life Hack 🏚️🧹

Masking tape is amazing stuff: shreddable, stays attached, removable, can be written upon. How did one survive this long without a steady supply of the stuff? Dad‘s desk was always equipped w masking tape. Of course he only had the one basic shade, but you can have it in a few colours

wow, this is grossly unjust: gothamist.com/news/jfk-air...? I am a big fan of OMNY mechanics because it resembles the Oyster card, but the rollout has been less than smooth. And in this case it’s actively cruel.
