All the old solar batteries are now out. I'll do some housekeeping to clean up and make room for the new ones then get to work assembling them!

Demo of the old solar battery is underway. Going slowly and carefully. Don't want to short anything out!

Here is today's money saving hack for the garden. Instead of buying "garden row markers", buy a pack of paint stirrers. You get 30 for under $2 vs 10 for almost $3. Best of all, they are wood and not plastic!!

Did my first copperhead relocation of the season today. Found a nice sized female in the garden, under an old tarp. It always gets your blood moving to find a snake when you don't expect it. She was well behaved as I scooped her up with the hoe and carried her over to the woods to go hunting!

Spring fever is in full swing around the house. Stepping up from containers to full on raised beds this year.

Getting the temporary battery setup connected and charged before going online with the inverter. This is the first step to removing the old battery pack to make room for the new one!

Going to make up a few more cables and get the charger connected.

Smoked a couple pork shoulders yesterday. They were in the green egg around 7hrs. I took them off and finished them in a 200 degree oven overnight. Today I had a nice breakfast of pulled pork biscuits .

Chicken curry is the PERFECT accompaniment to a cold, snowy evening in NC.

Its Monday morning and the ladies are looking for their pay in corn before getting to work laying some eggs! 😄

Its been a few days since I've been able to go out and sit with the chickens. Yesterday was the day to catch up on the chicken therapy. 😃

Here is the first of what looks to be 4 generators going off to their new homes in the next couple of weeks. At this rate, I'll be sold out before spring. The auction site doesn't have much to bid on these days so it may be a while before I have any more on hand.

Well, there goes my lunch plans for today.

FedEx delivered more than the package I was expecting yesterday. This tiny bird was left behind in the driveway. I reached down and it latched onto my finger and wouldn't let go. It seemed uninjured. The birdie took a nap in my hand for about 30 minutes then few away.

Be well my little friend.

The girls have been hard a work enlarging the footprint of Pine Straw Island. I'll have to go out and dredge it all up again in a few days. 😄
January 22, 2025 at 8:32 PM
The chicks were enjoying pine straw island this morning.
January 22, 2025 at 4:58 PM
I went out and piled up some pine straw in the chickens favorite corner of the yard. Seems they approve of the new seating arrangements .

Took advantage of the temperature to remove the frozen chicken poop from inside the chicken house and fluff up the straw in there too.

The chicks have already had some corn this morning. It looks like they about to have a protest march in an effort to gain a bit more.

I'll give them some extra to ward against the cold.

Coco is ready for this weeks cold weather!

When I start going through a generator, the first thing to determine is if it has any MAJOR issues. Once I've verified that it runs and makes power, I'll move on to the next step and start doing the cleaning and servicing.

Here is a short video showing getting one started for the first time.

Starting to do a full maintenance cycle on a MEP803.

Got a new project incoming! I can't say that doing a full service on a generator in the cold is going to be fun but I think I'll get it done!

It needs to be done in the next couple of weeks so it can be picked up the first week of Feb.

Testing a social media manager. Going to see if this does cross post as advertised.

This thing has an AI writing assistant. OK.. I had to see what it would do. Um.. No impressed. It certainly doesn't sound like me. So I'm not going to use it. You are stuck with the real me for now.

The neighbors rooster made a break for it and wanted to join flock of available ladies at my place. His discovery of the concept of an electric fence was very entertaining!

In his hormone induced state it took him about 4 times to figure out that the fence was NOT his friend.

Well, guess a first post must be made so here it is. I'll include a photo of one of my favorite chickens. Her name is Ginger. She likes giving me the stink-eye when I gather the eggs. This space will be for light hearted and fun goings ons from the ranch.
