Arne Mattsson recaptures the spine-tingling snap of Damen i svart with inheritance ruse VITA FRUN (1962) after the third Hillman mystery fell victim to the law of diminishing returns, backloading budget conscious lake lore & somnambulant suicide with a humdinger of a sting op séance. #Noirvember

Satō's bleak reinterpretation of The Conversation SURVEY MAP OF A PARADISE LOST (1988) also examines voyeurism from an auditorial standpoint, challenging the technology meant to ease connection that further divides & mechanizes a bubble society reeling from its byproduct: lack of sensation.

While Ákos Ráthonyi's THE DEVIL'S DAFFODIL (1961) feels most recognizably giallo in its dancer dispatching stocking masked menace & airline insurance sleuth, the daffy smuggler subplot, crazed Kinski & cringe use of Christopher Lee as a Charlie Chan-esque spy are pure krimi kookiness. #Noirvember

My favorite flavor of giallo: fashionable haunted women in existential crisis mode aka haute paranoia

Folie à deux enfolded in grain & dripping with depressive static, Satō's atypical Pinku rape revenge TURTLE VISION (1991) breaks erotic melancholy down to its visual viscera, meditating on sunsets like a voyeur upon a horny unsuspecting couple & embedding trauma into artfully reflexive tape glitch.

Combining the mystique of the Rue Morgue with a deadly Agatha Christie closed circle, Vohrer's THE DOOR WITH 7 LOCKS (1962) has everything Rialto Wallace krimi made legend including stunning photography, ham-fisted hijinks, unhinged science & a MacGuffin locked behind a sinister door. #Noirvember

A key domino in the German krimi film cycle's trajectory, Reinl's lean Wallace caper FELLOWSHIP OF THE FROG (1959) comes complete with chiaroscuro heavy pulp & a real rubik's cube of a plot bearing the eurospy augury of waggish playboy with butler sidekick & a penchant for crime solving. #Noirvember

Ghosts won't kill people because that would just make more ghosts. Isn't that right? Instead, they'll try to make people immortal by quietly trapping them in their own loneliness.

Beyond pat stalker/thriller, Shunichi Nagasaki's tense V-Cinema giallo style neo-noir STRANGER (1991) set amidst the predawn of Japan's asset bubble burst takes Spielberg's Duel on a gender bender, focusing its more intense moments on the incessant, unsolicited scrutiny women face daily. #Noirvember

A key progenitor of Wong Kar-Wai & Christopher Doyle's tone poems, Patrick Tam's spectacle of sadness MY HEART IS THAT ETERNAL ROSE (1989) perfects a certain synth driven ocular pageantry that forms lustrous crinkled foils of melodramatic longing to enfold heroic bloodshed's sweet sanguineous candy.
