I first heard @brendanvduke.bsky.social say this, but this isn't a case where we're all trying to tighten our belts to address the deficit. Instead, Rs are asking the poorest people in America to tighten their belts to make room for tax cuts that go to the rich - all while increasing the deficit.
Nearly final CBO score of the GOP reconciliation plan is out.
Their bill would cut program spending by $1.5 trillion but spend $312 billion more on defense, ICE, etc., for a total of $1.2 trillion in spending cuts.
Plus $3.6 trillion in tax cuts.
For a total of $2.4 trillion in higher deficits.
