Happy International Men's Day, men! Here's a poem I wrote for all of you:

I am man,
I have strong wrist,
Can open jam jar,
In single twist.

I avoided Rebel Moon because of the bad reviews, but decided to try the director's cut - all 6 hours and 17 minutes of it, across both films - and really enjoyed it. Yeah, it's epically ridiculous, but by the end I was sad that Snyder will likely never make the whole six-film saga. Anyone else?

The final story in FF#25 is "Margin Walker" by @tonydunnell.bsky.social. Tony's novelette follows a band of survivors, fighting back against the robot hive-mind that (mostly) eradicated humankind. It's an absolutely beautiful take on a familiar trope.

Some people say they can't stand so-called "influencers." Personally, I love them. They sit on my shelf, well worn and always ready.

My sci-fi story "Mantaro" will be published in Fission #5 by @bsfa.bsky.social. It's a story about coca, corruption and a particularly lethal autonomous quadruped robot roaming the VRAEM in Peru -- the world's densest area of cocaine production. Cover art by Elena Berri.

My sci-fi flash fiction story "The Shattered Lands" has been published by @foofarawpress.bsky.social. Time travel is a subject I normally avoid cos it's a head f**k. But here is my vision of a world where time travel has taken place - with good intentions but chaotic results.

"Extravagantly long shoes were favored by young men, some of whom would stand on street corners wiggling their shoes suggestively at people walking by."

Here's an article I wrote about the use of ridiculously pointy shoes in the Middle Ages.
Why Did Medieval People Wear Such Pointy Shoes?
If you could travel back in time to the medieval period, you’d soon see some fashion trends that are a far cry from today’s typical clothing. Depending on what century you arrived in — Europe’s mediev...

Upstream Color is an amazing film. It's experimental, for sure, but compared to director Shane Carruth's debut movie Primer, it is positively accessible.

There's something hideously ironic about seeing Musk wearing a Foundation t-shirt. Asimov would have loathed the man.

It must be true, a doctor said it - Tarapoto Life
I went to see the doctor in Tarapoto about a blocked ear and ended up hearing all about how owls are attracted to pregnant women.

The Peruvian hairless dog, also known as the viringo, was the inspiration for my extraterrestrial emperor in "The Alien in My Bathtub," published in Escape Pod. I've met a lot of these dogs during my 15 or so years in Peru. This one is my favorite. He's called Humpty.
