In the last 15 years, at least four movies have been released with the title "Beast." Tonight I watched the 2017 British psychological thriller "Beast," and it's a very good film. Jessie Buckley (Men; Women Talking; Hamnet etc.) is excellent, as always.

I watched Marrowbone (2017) last night. It only has 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it's atmospheric enough to make it worth the effort. And it's got Anya Taylor-Joy and Mia Goth in it, which is good enough for me (they later starred in Emma together, which is a fun film).

Horror in the High Desert (2021) is a good movie, blending #horror mockumentary with #foundfootage. There are a lot of duds in the genre, but this isn't one. Has anyone seen the sequels?

Just watched The Royal Hotel, a 2023 Australian psychological thriller that sees director Kitty Green and Julia Garner team up again after their brilliant 2019 movie The Assistant. Royal Hotel isn't quite as good, but it's still a very solid film.

Fallen Leaves is a deadpan romantic comedy-drama from #Finland. And when I say deadpan, I mean almost The Lobster levels of deadpan. But it's a sweet, life-affirming film with plenty of heart (and some funny commentary on Jim Jarmusch's The Dead Don't Die).

I watched Hedda last night, based on the play Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen. Good film, possibly Nia DaCosta's best yet (haven't seen #BoneTemple yet though). Tessa Thompson is fantastic as the intelligent, unpredictable, and egocentric Hedda.

I made this short video 8 years ago at the Amazon Rescue Center in Iquitos, #Peru. I've seen and done a lot of things in my 15+ years in Peru, but seeing and feeding these orphaned baby manatees is still one of my highlights. Will go back again one day ❤️

We Bury the Dead is a valiant attempt at doing something new with the zombie movie, and Daisy Ridley does a good job (her natural English accent would have been preferable though). Overall, a solid but unspectacular entry in the genre.
