We have had an abandoned fox cub under our garden hedge for the past 9 days. It is absolutely tiny, about 3-4 weeks old. We have kept it alive feeding it dog food and giving it fresh water. With the help of Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue we finally caught it this morning. Off to its new home now. 👍

These little, early post-medieval strap mounts with hooks for a loop are common finds for me. Presumably utilitarian with lots of different uses although sword belt or spur fitting has been suggested on many of those recorded with PAS. #FindsFriday

Sourdough-making is improving slowly. Happy with this one yesterday. A little eruption from the side wall but cuts well and nice crumb. #sourdough 👍🙂

Sourdough day today. In a Dutch Oven with high protein (14%) organic flour & my own sourdough starter, Betsy. Betsy is 5 years old now & her flavours are developing nicely. Fed at 1:7.5:5.4 the day before baking, giving a 72% hydration to match the dough (500g flour, 360g water, 10g salt) #sourdough

They take some sneaking up on. It has taken about 6 months to get this close! Right at the bottom of the sluice pipe. ☺️

@metadot.bsky.social Hi Dot. So amazing to finally see you on Digging For Britain. We have been in touch for so many years but it is the first time I have actually seen you! Brilliant debut (for me). 👌🙂

Can anyone tell me if these are archaeological trenches please? Such a large area covered by these. Found on Google Earth when researching a Lincolnshire Priory.

For #FindsFriday, an old but favourite one. Decorated medieval lead weight. Three lions on a shield. IE CIVTAS around the edge. The weight is exactly 453 grammes (16.007 ounces), so an avoirdupois 1LB weight. On the PAS database as PUBLIC-BA9056 🙂

A site I metal detect & field walk has produced numerous #Viking era whetstones. Many are made from the mica-rich schist typical of the Eidsborg and Telemark region of Norway. Other finds from the same site would back up the early-medieval dating. Here is just a selection of the total number found.

Sometimes all you need is a field to yourself, sunshine and a metal detector. Breath of fresh air. 🙂
