Recent developments in Ecuador are troubling with the president proposing a bill to privatize, militarize and auction off protected áreas, most of these are ancestral indigenous territories.
President Noboa’s “urgent” bill will become law in 2 weeks, unless it's stopped. It hands over ancestral lands to private interests, ignores Indigenous Peoples entirely, & violates constitutional and international law. It is an attack on rights & nature. REJECT IT. #ÁreasProtegidasNOprivatizadas

🦜 Others will never be discovered.

So, what’s at stake? 🌱🫀 Rights. Beauty. Nature. Life.

A quick compilation of a trip I was privileged to be on nearly a year ago. The Siekopai were divided by a war, separated by states yet still one. This reunion of communities and long lost family members on both sides was a privilege to behold. A trip to the flooded forests of the Amazon 🌴💗

Assemblies are common for indigenous peoples and an important place in which a nationality can gather to discuss issues and connect, sharing knowledge and art.

Here the Siekopai (secoya) paint their faces with Achiote (Bixa Orellana) during their congress. Each design holding a particular meaning.

More then 10 years of increased armed actor activity in Ecuador, illegal mining to launder money, total inactivity from the state against these threats, and now multiple strongholds deep in Ecuador of FARC dissidence.
