I will be playing bass with the Countrypolitans at the Spare Room on Friday. Chances are good I will bust out “Woman Sensuous Woman” and you don’t wanna miss that.

One for my jazzbos: damn, I NEVER expected to run across a copy of this in the wilds of Portland. Elton Dean’s Ninesense on the Ogun label. Killer English jazz from the 70s with a bunch of the Brotherhood Of Breath crew. It’s been glued to my turntable for days now. Love it!

We plan to debut four new & new-to-us songs at this show, including two from the new record-in-progress, and a couple country classiques. Community and togetherness is important, especially now. Let’s have us a good time!

Me, I’m looking forward to this opportunity to play my music for the people of Portland. It’s got a good beat and you can dance to it. And maybe you’ll hear some of the words and go “aw I know what that’s like, I have felt like that before too” and that’s a lovely human thing.

I always tell myself "I am done buying 78s, I’m never going to buy one again" and then I find this at the thrift store down the street for 50 cents and I buy it anyway, and then it's a really cool rendition of a classic song, and now I have one more 78.

Melba Montgomery. What a voice. She will perhaps be best remembered as George Jones’ premier duet partner, but her solo recordings and duets with Charlie Louvin are well worth seeking out too. Gonna have to spin some Melba tonight in her memory. RIP.

It’s mine, at last. Ran across a nice copy of this and had a few dollars in my pocket so I splurged and got it. Damn what a record. Hillbilly murder songs don’t get much better than this. The image of dragging Sweet Charlie’s body out of the river with a mule gets me every time.
