The kids gave me a Little Free Library. Wonderful present but I live on a dead end dirt road in the mountains and more deer than humans come by.

Thanksgiving dinner from the organic store was delicious. I honestly don’t think I could do better. Everyone was full and happy. Another good part? There’s enough left overs to feed the rest of the family tomorrow.

Tomorrow's Thanksgiving Dinner will be first: I'm hosting a dinner with everything ordered. We'll see how that goes. As I've told everyone, with my brother's health so fragile, I don't have the time. This may become a new tradition if the food is good. 🙂

My brother is doing better but he has a long recovery ahead of him. The Thanksgiving dinner that I didn't plan to hold is shrinking to a manageable level and, lastly, I've resolved to remove everyday irritants from my life. Can't control people, surely I'll have better luck with the inanimate.

My brother is in and out of hospital/care home, sister in law is finally accepting the reality and I'm exhausted. And sad.

Unbeknownst to me, Fizz, the ex-angelic dog, hid his bone in my bed and then ate it through the top sheet! It looks like he may have gone a bit mad because there's a whole line of holes in it. Then he nudged the pillows over the whole mess and left if as a bedtime surprise.

Tried out my new shower last night only to discover there was no hot water! Men showed up early this morning, in the snow, to fix it. Then another duo showed up to fix it. I like this contractor!

I awoke to Snow! About 3 inches on the ground and 27 F. It is lightly snowing now, too. It's vey pretty, especially since I don't have to go out in it. First snow + icy roads = accidents in a college town.

I'm trying to recall the pre-snowstorm to-do list. Not much snow predicted but bitter temps and high winds will make the likelihood of losing power and internet high. Pioneer Woman will put a pot of hot water on the wood stove, this time, 'cause if I can make coffee, I can survive.

The new shower is almost done. It looks great but no one has noticed yet how narrow it is. Hint: It is pretty narrow! But better than the other one which I not-so-lovingly call "The Coffin."

My brother is back in the hospital but the workers are here tiling my new shower so I won't be going over right away.

The contractor was coming this morning to pick up (I thought) the downpayment but surprise! His team came to put in a shower. It won't be finished today but man, these guys work hard.
November 3, 2025 at 9:42 PM
The contractor who is going to put in a shower, instead of showing up today to pick up a check, he and the crew showed up to do it. Surprise! I mean, work done early? Insane.

I may have to move the HOA to a new bank, after picking this one 6 months ago. For some reason they are putting 3 week holds on the checks I write to people. I mean, why?

The Soy and Scallion Momofuku is good, especially with added leftover peas. Next time I'll spice it up a little.

Snow mixed with rain counts as snow to me! It is such an icky day outside!
October 29, 2025 at 1:05 PM
There is a really good chance it is going to snow between now and Haloween. In the 90s when I lived here we never got out of October without a snow but it hasn't been that way since climate change kicked in. It's really cold outside, maybe it will snow!

Akkerman fountain pen ink? The best bottle in the business and I like the way the inks look and behave. I laughed today when Ancestry found a new Akkerman ancestor for me. I forgot I was related to them through the female line. vanness1938.com/products/akk...
Akkerman Ink Dutch Masters 02 Dou's Emerald Green
Akkerman 02 Dou's Emerald Green from the Dutch Masters collection is a deep olive green ink with low shading and low red sheen. It dries in 80 seconds in a medium nib on Rhodia and has an average flow...

Mr. Evangelical's kids are struggling since they were raised to think being gay is the worst and that it is a choice rather than natural. Having dad admit he is gay and moving in with his boyfriend? They are all lost. I sure do hope they get help.

So my cousin's kid who married Mr. Super Evangelical? Fast forward 20 years and he just moved in with his boyfriend. IMO people who go overboard on religion are not who they pretend to be.

Last night I went to a Thai restaurant for Pho and shared a new to the menu Thai dessert. What I like about the place is they make a point of introducing new Thai dishes and educating us about them. It's pretty weird for the mountains but it's thriving.

The wind today is something fierce. 30 mph with higher gusts. This old place was built by mountain people though and usually the wind coming down the gap hits the low roof on that side and goes right over.

Well THIS is very cool: cancer patients who received Covid vaccines had a longer median survival than those who hadn’t – suggesting the vaccine somehow helped their immune systems fight the disease.
