Loving life and fly fishing in the Kamloops region of British Columbia and abroad. My passion for fly fishing and competition angling has taken me around the world and introduced me to some pretty amazing people and waters…

As an angler, there are times that I feel as if I am a child playing the ultimate game of ‘hide and seek’…

A pretty spectacular Northern Lights display visible from our backyard tonight! Thankfully the skies are fairly clear and the clouds aren’t too much of a
factor…

Missing the time spent fishing, but having just as much fun woodworking and building some storage lockers to organize the shop…

Enjoyed another picturesque fall day, searching for trout, and trying to “crack the code” once I found them. The Pennasks rainbow trout were in prime condition and more than willing participants today!
Nymphs proved to be the most productive pattern for this day!

I forgot just how fun watching Saturday morning cartoons used to be! It’s great to have little reminders of what we’ve been missing…

The fall season is when I most enjoy fishing on our interior lakes. The air and water temperatures are dropping to more comfortable levels, the crowds are beginning to thin, and the trout are actively feeding and generally in prime condition…

As I take in tonight’s breathtaking sunset, from the comfort of my deck, I am reminded that today’s autumnal equinox marks the arrival of fall, bringing with it shorter hours of daylight, cooler temperatures, and fall fishing on our interior lakes…

Had the privilege of being invited to harvest a small batch of choke cherries at the Simpcw First Nation’s village in Chu Chua near Barriere, BC.
I can hardly wait to taste the jelly that my wife will be making with the choke cherries!

Our first good yield of peaches from the peach trees in our fruit orchard. They’re slightly smaller than expected, but very juicy and delicious. Our grandson Bowen definitely approves!!

Built this solid oak, pet/child gate for my daughter today. Love wood working projects that can be done in a few hours!

It is often said that timing is everything…
Yesterday was one of those days, as I was fortunate to have timed my visit to a local lake while there was an intense insect hatch in progress. For me, there are few things more exciting than casting to rising fish…

I was fortunate to cross paths with this impressive male Bighorn Sheep during yesterday’s fishing adventure in the mountains above Kamloops, British Columbia! Interactions with wildlife during fishing trips is always a bonus and never taken for granted…

Had a terrific time on a local lake today. The fishing was challenging, but we managed to catch (and release) a fair number of hard-fighting rainbow trout.
Stripping leech patterns on Type 3 lines and hand-twisting mayfly nymphs on intermediate lines worked best for us…

Sitting on our back deck with a hot cup of coffee while spotting deer and enjoying a rare sighting of a black bear and her cubs traveling through the tree lines across the valley. A very peaceful and great way to start the weekend…

Challenging day spent searching for fish with a few of my fellow members of the Kamloops Fly Fishers Club, but we did manage to find a few of them! Callibaetis mayfly nymphs stripped on Rio MidgeTip and Slow Glass Fly Lines saved the day for us…

I always enjoy fishing with my buddy Gord! The excitement and joy that he displays whenever he lands a trout (no matter the size) always brings a smile to my face and makes my time on the water all that much better…

Had a great day fishing with friends! A lot of fish were caught on a variety of patterns, but even though there were a lot of chironomids hatching, stripping nymphs proved to be the most effective strategy.
Gotta love springtime fishing on our BC interior lakes!

While fishing, I rarely photograph fellow anglers, but while fishing alongside this elderly gentleman from Comox, a brief respite from the rain allowed a beam of sunshine to illuminate both the angler and his boat as he played a magnificent rainbow trout…

It is said that there is a lot more to fishing than just catching fish, but for me the greatest satisfaction comes from helping other anglers to build lasting memories and witnessing the joy that they express when it finally happens…

Pausing to enjoy a beautiful sunset after time spent prepping the vegetable garden and pool for the season! Really looking forward to spending some time fishing once the work in the garden is complete.

The neighborhood deer seem to like hanging around inside our fenced fields and yards these days. But I suppose that the allure of the new spring pasture grass and sense of security will do that…
