He must be good at it, she thinks, for all these girls to put up with the rest of it. When she tells Tommy about this particular train of thought (after all, she tells him everything), he shrugs. "I've never thought about it." "Really." She stares him down, until she's pretty sure she can peer directly into his brain. And she knows that he's thought about it, maybe more than her. How could he not? The next time they're passing a bottle around, Carol says it. "I don't get what all the fuss is about, that's all." "You're so full of shit, Carol," Steve says easily. But she sees the comment stick with him. And when she says it—well, why don't you give Tommy a kiss, and he can tell me?—she sees his glance. "Fine." "Don't I get a say in this?" Tommy says, but he gets his weight on his knees and Steve crawls his way, across the nicely carpeted living room floor. Carol watches. She sees Tommy's eyes close first, sees Steve's stay open too long. Sees him glance her way, again, lifting his lips in a smile in her direction because he's an idiot just like her.
