I don’t know everything, but I do know that it takes a lot more courage and manly fortitude to be a kind and good person that it does to be an asshole.

Someone told me I was the glue that kept a particular group of my friends together. I thought that was odd because I feel like I am the one they invite after they have already made the plan. And she said the plan might fall apart if you didn’t go. I said that makes me feel like a benign cult leader.

David was never going to be that guy. He just saw the whole thing as a trap, even though the whole group was trying only to make sure that they couldn’t make any of the accusations stick. He wanted to thank them, to give each one a big hug and allow himself to feel thankful. Instead, he turned away.

She knew she should do something, but as she saw the questions beating him down, she felt an embarrassing schaudenfreude. He had always helped and supported her, but the bruises and scars from what had happened were enough that she would stand by, unable to do anything but watch him slowly implode.

Ok, so: The last thing that he saw before the lights went out was the wildness in her eyes. She seemed to have heard what he said, and decided that what it meant was that she could never be certain what lay ahead for them and the world when the child realized where they really were, and what she had
