The Okinawa trip is set.
In a month, there’ll be light.
For now, I live through the dark.

Yes I enjoyed the very personal point of view of the videos.
Unfortunately uncertainty is increasing worldwide. We can only do what we can and hope for the best.
In the meantime I will spend some time sitting on beaches looking at the waves.

As before.

I live alone on an island.
Wrote a letter, sealed it in a bottle, threw it into the sea.

Forgot it.

One day, a pigeon shows up with a reply.

That’s the feeling.

I’m especially happy that you understood the “atmosphere.” That was exactly what I was aiming for. I tried to create something that doesn’t feel too “YouTube-like.”

Things feel rather uncertain in Japan these days, but I sincerely hope your journey will be a successful and meaningful one.

Thank you so much!
I’ve honestly never really been praised for my videos by people in Japan, so your comment truly means a lot to me.
I will be going to Aomori this May. Your experience on the Michinoku Coastal Trail inspired me to walk it this Spring. I really liked the unique atmosphere of your videos.

Aomori has taken a hard hit from heavy snowfall this year.
It’s a good place—worth the trip.
I hope people from the U.S. and Europe will come this summer and support the local economy.
The festivals alone are reason enough.

I keep thinking about summer in the north.
This winter in Tokyo has felt strangely long.
I’ll head south before long.

They keep going on about “cancel culture,” yet it feels to me that the real act of resistance against the chaos of today would be to cancel Twitter itself.

And yet, we walk alone, chasing elusive freedom.

And sooner or later, Takaichi will probably try to resurrect something like Japan’s wartime Tokko.
Not on my watch, though.

They’ll ape Trump, just like monkeys.

I’d also recommend this short film. There’s a quiet ache to it.
There’s a quiet undercurrent of gentrification and inequality running through it—themes that also run through his halftime show.
America—and América, too.

Some time ago, I shared this article link on Twitter and made a few comments about it—in Japanese, of course—but no one reacted, so I eventually took it down.
I’ll put it up here again—it’s a useful read if you want to understand who Bad Bunny is.

If what a disillusioned leftist ends up as is someone like Shigesato Itoi—a type that shows up in droves in a certain generation—doesn’t the whole thing suddenly make sense?

The lesson we might start with is this: the other side grows stronger precisely because it never learns from its own disasters and never lets up.
Even in that brutality, there is something to be reckoned with.
