My newest review of Katie Kitamura’s novel Audition is up at BookBrowse. It was a challenge to communicate how innovative this phenomenal book was without giving anything away to the reader. www.bookbrowse.com/mag/reviews/....

It’s the week before semana santa in Spain and teams of 30-40 costaleros are practicing carrying the procession pasos, which will weigh 1 - 2 metric tons and carry elaborate statues of Jesus and Mary down the streets here in Granada. It’s quite a sight to see.

My latest book review is up on BookBrowse. This was a fun assignment. They asked us to highlight lesser known classics published before 2000. I reviewed the novel “Hideous Kinky” by Esther Freud.

This statue of Goya popped up on plaza nueva recently. I understand that other statues are placed around town, but this is the only one I have stumbled upon. I love living in Granada.

This month I’m participating in the Draw Together with Wendy Mac practice on Substack. Its pulling this non-artist way out of her comfort zone, but I’m loving the community and discovering new ways to see the world around me.

This weekend, my son, Nico, and his girlfriend, Ari, made flores manchegas, a Spanish version of Swedish rosette cookies, also made with a metal mold dipped in batter then deep-fried. They were surprisingly light and delicious. #food #spanishdesserts

I’m happy to be newly here on Bluesky, and hoping to talk books, food, and politics, but why am I seeing so many cats in my suggested feed? I like cats I suppose, but I’m a dog person. Posting a photo of my dog Poppy in hopes of tweaking the algorithm
