Great win by #Ireland this PM. Fast, energetic and determined. They needed this win to prepare for the Aussies next week!

As Saturday golf was stormed off my wife and I enjoyed an exceptional lunch at Noble in Holywood Co. Down. Full of flavor and well priced. Thoroughly recommended. #northernireland #lunch

Today’s positive post: My son is settling in to Chongqing in China, teaching English to kids who are surprised when he speaks to them in Mandarin.
My daughter is in Paris teaching English at the Sorbonne, having a great time.
They are our joy.

John Prescott was the last of old Labour. A working class man who had actually worked. He knew real people, grew up in a post war world where poverty and deprivation were everyday and fought to improve life for millions. A life well lived.

The multi-millionaire who bought farmland to avoid tax…

And the man who decimated farming to progress his own career

…are now the self-appointed saviours of farming

On today’s pod we discuss how people have lost their damned minds.

Today’s positive post: it’s dry. It’s not too cold. I’m playing golf later. Our winter league team is eight points clear of second place. Jimi Hendrix is playing on the Echo. A good start to the day!

The iPhone is the best exercise machine ever invented! I’ve walked hundreds of miles looking for mine and my wife’s.

So here’s a positive on Trump. If after four years of government he has damaged America it could mean that politics reverts to the norm of respecting differences and a desire for change across the political landscape.

I’ve fallen into the trap of i posting in here as if it is Twitter. I’m now going to try to look for the positive as much as possible. Solutions not problems.

I’m watching Say Nothing, and am going to say something. It is a good drama, but as usual in these things the reality of NI in the 70s for everyday ordinary people is sidelined. Bombs and murders are passed by as cardboard scenery as the protagonists take the spotlight, again.

@maitlis.bsky.social one wonders who won all the other elections in the US, for judges, sheriffs, district attorneys, mayors etc? Is the infrastructure in place for a complete takeover by the Maga mob? Perhaps your team could tell us?

Liberals need to find a game changing winner for ordinary people. They’re there in front of them. Health and education. Not tinkering, not new tactics, but a clean sheet of paper, a totally new approach. Focused on the serving the people not the budgets.

Liberals are stuck in a place like an iPhone. The first one was a brilliant game changer, and improved radically over the next few iterations, but now it’s hard to see what’s improved. Now it’s hard to make visible improvements for ordinary people.

Went to see Gladiator ll yesterday. A swords and sandals epic that shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Clunky dialogue, but who cares? Great fights, lots of gore, some ridiculous scenes but who’s looking for art? All in all great fun!

Meanwhile the oil funded right wing think tanks and their slavering servants in the media keep trying to deny the existence of dangerous climate change. #R4Today

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Farmers who will have to pay the inheritance tax own their land. They can easily get a mortgage on a small part of their land, and repay over ten years. They don’t have to pay rent which almost every other business pays. So they should stop moaning and join the real world.

Imagine being so financially strapped that you have to sell off a small percentage of your land. Or. Imagine having land to sell off when you’re struggling with everyday bills! I know who I think needs help.

The farmers bleat on about how they feed us, but don’t seem to understand that we buy their produce and products with the money left after we pay our taxes, that most of us do not have estates that are worth £millions, & are v unlikely to have businesses to hand on. And they cry!
