I have a great uncle who was a successful moonshiner during Prohibition.

It's not embarrassing, though I'd be a bit ashamed if he'd done all that work and not turned a profit.

It has been ten days since we built the fence above the retaining wall, and yesterday a utility guy came out to mark the buried power lines TWELVE DAYS AFTER HE WAS SUPPOSED TO SHOW UP.

Well, the "I'm a Mac..." ad campaign has been resurrected to sell Ozempic. I wonder if the FDA is aware of this off-label usage. 😁

We're going out for dinner later tonight, but today I spent the afternoon doing our taxes.

Busy day today, out hunting and gathering. Costco for two of everything, the eye vet for an updated med for Rumor, Aldi for some fave food, Petsmart for horse toys, Tractor Supply for zero cinnamon bears (alas!), gasoline, and finally the library to drop off books.

I have feelings about this: www.ibtimes.co.uk/doctor-who-n...

1) They gave control to The Mouse?
2) Instead of leaving the Doctor on BBC America, they wanted me to sign up for a Monthly Mouse Fee?
3) For a whole season, they do the Buffy Musical schtick in nearly every episode?
Doctor Who 'Not Going Anywhere' After Disney Exits $220M Deal

If you've ever watched "The Wild Wild West" (the TV show, not the ya-gotta-have-a-giant-spider-in-act-3 movie) you've noticed the pattern in the titles. They're all "The Night of the X".

I think they missed the boat by not having a Steampunk King Arthur story called "The Night of the Round Table".

Sooo... What if wolves domesticated the ape men instead of the other way around?

CNBC Headline: "Dow tumbles nearly 600 points"

Me: I need to go to CNBC and spank somebody. Hard. 600 out of 49,000 Is Not A TUMBLE. Stop trying to scare people.

The fence was nearly completed yesterday. Still needs one rail, the posts topped, and a few other things.

Fence going up
February 5, 2026 at 8:01 PM
Just barely made the wordle today. Four greens and lots of options.

Fence contractor drives up.

Mild sleet begins.

Well, it's shaping up to be a terrific day.

Also thankful that the rain today was very light. The yard is already soft from snow-melt. If it had rained hard, tomorrow's fence work would be extra difficult.

And as I hauled corral panels through mud and horse poo, I reminded myself that I'd gone to college because I wanted an indoor job.

YAY: Starting the last phase of the drainage work tomorrow--some new horse fencing.

BOO: Getting up at 0720 because the contractor will arrive at 0800.

A recent read. Definitely recommended. Clever contrast between an Oxford education in ancient languages and glorious life in the klieg lights and dark shadows beneath the HOLLYWOODLAND sign.

Horses shifted. Corral shifted. Arse tired.

Fencing contractor coming tomorrow to finish off the horse fence by the new retaining wall. Today, we'll go out and move the corral panels to keep the horses away from the pool and the workers. And it's raining. Whee!

Yesterday I went back to the dump with the load thwarted by last week's dumpster fire. I was thwarted again, that time by a weather closure.

Today the third time was the charm, as the old saw goes, and at last my rubbish had been left in the midden for future archaeologists.

Tonight we watched Groundhog Day. Again.

And this was the first time I caught Bill Murray's hilarious expressions the first time he tastes sweet vermouth on the rocks with a twist.

Sam The Rescue Corgi is basically a snowplow in this weather.
