Was great to be a part of this 😄

Really pleased to help support open publishing!

Thank you for organising, Andy 🥳
I'm getting set up for the first meeting of the @janewayolh.bsky.social working group. Our aim is to form the @openlibhums.bsky.social Publishing Technologies Board. This board will help direct development of Janeway.

I'm also prepping a roast dinner. So... my iMac is in my kitchen 😀

I would have to disagree with paywalls being inherently bad, esp. in this example.

The issue with paywalls is that they limit exactly the knowledge that's needed to counter the "absolute shite".

If only the rich can access knowledge, don't be surprised if discourse shifts to suit their needs.
It's not that paywalls are inherently bad. It's that there's no barrier to idiots spewing absolute shite on other sites for free.

Cognitive load refers to how much working memory or short-term memory someone is using at a time. Minimizing the cognitive load it takes to use your site makes it more accessible for people with cognitive disabilities. Limit what you're asking users to remember to use your site.

Community engagement is also crucial to increase transparency and trust. Diamond OA so important and ticks so many boxes
Reggie now talking about the importance of 'community-driven' as a facet of diamond OA, which he argues means collective management of publishing by academic communities, libraries and scholarly societies, rather than commercial organisations. #OASPA2024

Reggie Raju talking about social justice as a disruptive force within academic publishing.

"The transference of the financial barrier from the reader to the author is catastrophic": Raju sees diamond open access as a second chance to make good on the promise of OA.

Research success has many unsung heroes, it's time to bring them out of the shadows!
The more submissions we receive, the more evidence we have to campaign for research evaluation to recognise everyone who’s vital to the conduct of research.

Pleased to see #CitizenScience making headlines!

IMO, it's a great way to help combat misinformation & diversify academia.

The public often wants to be involved in research but...
