Oct 15 1918 Hitler temporarily blinded in mustard gas attack and hospitalized. On Nov 10 1918 he learned from a pastor of Germany's defeat, and he claims 2nd bout of blindness. Later writes that he realized he would liberate Germany, and "make it great"

Omaha Daily Bee Nov 9 1919 "France's death roll of war wounded is growing at an appalling rate. At the various military hospitals alone 28,000 soldiers and 600 officers have died since the armistice from wounds and the effects of poison gas." This doesn't account for those who die at home.

Nov 5 1919 Almost 3,600 war brides have been shipped to America from Europe. Of this total, 3/5 of the number were French, 1/5 English the rest scattered between 21 nationalities. 2/5 Execution of Edith Cavell sparked worldwide horror. Of the 27 defendants in Cavell's case, 5 were sentenced to die: Cavell, Baucq, Louise Thuliez (pictured) Séverin and Countess Jeanne de Belleville. After outrage over Cavell's execution on Nov 9 1915 death sentences were commuted to prison
