Imports continue to be a fairly big part of how Ireland meets its electricity demand. But looking at overall numbers for 2024, it's quite similar to 2023, but domestic generation mix became cleaner, leading to a 8.5% drop in average grid carbon intensity, which is certainly welcome news.
Irish electricity also slightly cleaner in 2024 than 2023 (making 2024 the cleanest ever). Preliminary 2023 v 2024 stats:
Low-carbon sources/generation: 42.2% v 42.4%
Low-carbon sources/demand: 38%v 37.5%
(Low-carbon+imports from GB)/demand: 49.5% v 50.2%
Grid carbon intensity (gCO2/kWh): 280 v 256
UK electricity cleanest ever in 2024, with record 58% from low-carbon sources
UK has more than halved amount of electricity generated from fossil fuels but gas still had largest share at 28%

Horizon Europe's overall budget is 95.5 BILLION euros. The gov't has decided that NZ's access to the portion of those $ that relates to humanities & social sciences isn't worth pursuing.

Horizon investment in our researchers would cost the NZ taxpayer next to nothing for huge investment & reward
And funding opportunities for the social sciences and humanities have been cut from the Horizon Europe programme. 🤬
