Time to fix a Macintosh Portable that was saved by Barbara Nelson. Demo unit. Used for about a year or so, and then stored away all these decades.

Got my childhood photos from my aunt when I went to dad's funeral. This is the most 90s shirt I think I have ever seen let alone me wearing it. I actually don't remember at all what I wore back then until looking at these photos of myself

Got OpenMediaVault working on Windows 98! But, with an insecure Samba config ofc. What I'd like to do is have two different samba configs on OMV split across the main lan and retro vlan, but I can't seem to find an easy way to do that. Going to have to containerize it as a bridge

Rest in peace you two. You will be sorely missed. If you have anyone in your life you remotely care about and love, PLEASE tell them you love them. They may not be here tomorrow, just like both of my parents.

You know the one thing that really sucks about life? Death. My dad passed away this morning, I just got the news. We weren't super close but he was still my dad and about the only one I talked to from my estranged family.

My dad made me who I am today. Gonna miss him.

Decided to re-do the AV rack to account for digital cable. I am out of rack space, so this is a thermal management nightmare

SMD capacitors from 1999. Worst capacitors ever made. They're all bad, and they didn't even use an aluminum can. Its foil shoved into plastic.

I propose a solution to our ongoing RAM shortage:

Time to work on this little JVC professional video monitor which is of an interesting technology. Black and white CRT but a Field sequential color shutter

This 1994 Magnavox CRT TV is still running. Owned it since new, as a childhood present. Runs all night long every night which is around 7 to 10 hours a night since then. Had a gap in 00s when i switched TVs, but went back in 2005. I repaired it in 2007. Testament to how durable these can be!

LCs FOR SALE! Just went through all of these myself, so they have been gone through.

Two were bombed, replaced the boards and got rid of the shields. the other 4 weren't. All are fixed/working. 2 of which have Bluescsi v2, 1 is a bluescsi v1, rest still have original HDDs. (Ran out of blueSCSIs)

This Macintosh lc475 had a handful of open traces. Took five patch wires to bring it alive

Data archeology is fun as you end up un-earthing time capsules from Schools... This appears to be a Year-2020 project written in 1998 by various students:

Macintosh LC machines are such a cute machine, even if pokey. Just did a motherboard swap on this battery bombed machine and brought it back alive

Apple manual inject drives are a whole new level of fun. Much more complicated and you lose the alignment during disassembly

Now I need to look through this stack of LC fun. Not a great start though

Triage complete on the system source machines. Probably will save a couple but the rest will be parted out
November 19, 2025 at 10:53 PM
No archeology going to be happening with this one 😬
