First, Hulu + Live TV comes with a three-day free trial for new customers. After the trial ends, plans with the Disney Bundle cost $90 per month. Fubo offers ABC and CBS in its Fubo Sports plan at $56 per month, or Fubo Pro starting at $85. Either choice will get you a free trial of between one and seven days, depending on what time of month you subscribe and other factors. What are all the services you can use to watch the 2025 NWSL semifinals? DIRECTV, Fubo, and Hulu + Live TV are the three live TV streamers you can use to watch both semifinal matches on the same platform; of these choices, we think DIRECTV is definitely the best way to go. YouTube TV is still in the midst of a carriage dispute with Disney as of the time of this writing, so ABC is unavailable on the streamer. It does have CBS and costs $83 per month after a free trial. Sling TV carries ABC in its Blue ($46 per month) and Select ($20 per month) plans in a small number of markets. It doesn’t carry CBS anywhere. Paramount+ will carry Sunday’s NWSL semifinal, and it starts at $8 per month for ad-supported service. ESPN Unlimited will carry Saturday’s semifinal, with a starting price of $30 per month. How to watch No. 9 Notre Dame vs. No. 22 Pittsburgh
How to watch No. 9 Notre Dame vs. No. 22 Pittsburgh
It will be a quasi-ACC matchup between two ranked teams on Sunday in the Steel City. While the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish aren’t actually an ACC member when it comes to football, they do play a modified ACC schedule. However, that doesn’t matter to Pat Narduzzi, the head coach of the No. 22 Pittsburgh Panthers , who earlier this week said, “It’s not an ACC game. I’d gladly get beat 103 or 110-10 in that game. They could put 100 up on us as long as we win the next two.” Narduzzi was insinuating that all he cares about is winning the ACC title, so that the game against the Irish has been rendered meaningless. That seems like an odd statement from a coach hoping to make the College Football Playoff, but we will see how his team responds when it faces off with ND on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 12 noon ET in a game airing on ABC . If you are looking for a live TV streaming service with the best mix of channels and price, we recommend streaming the game and the entire college football season with a subscription to Sling TV . You can also stream it on ESPN’s new standalone streaming service . At just $46 per month, you can sign up for either the Sling Orange or Blue base plans, depending on which channel lineup makes the most sense for your viewing needs. In this case, Sling Orange would be your best bet to watch the Pittsburgh vs. Notre Dame game, since it is airing on ESPN. Of course, you could always get Sling Orange and Sling Blue for just $61 monthly and have access to all of the streamer’s base package channels. Related: How to get the most college football from Sling this season However, customers who don’t need a full month of Sling service can sign up to watch via Sling’s new Passes. Sling’s Day Pass will allow you to sign up for its Orange plan for one day for just $5. That means you can pay just $5 to watch the Pittsburgh vs. Notre Dame game with Sling TV, which is far less than you’ll be asked to pay at other streaming services. That lower price and heightened flexibility are why we recommend Sling TV most highly for watching the entire 2025 college football season . Keep in mind that while ABC is only available on Sling in eight markets around the country, every sporting event that airs on the channel is simulcast on ESPN3 , which is covered in multiple programming packages on the streamer. However, if you live in one of the markets below, you will also have the benefit of streaming the channel proper. Sling is a live TV streaming service with multiple channel packages. The $45.99/month Sling Orange plan offers about 30 channels, including Disney Channel and ESPN . The $45.99/month Sling Blue plan offers about 40 channels, including ABC , Fox , and NBC in major markets. You can combine Orange+Blue for a total of $60.99 / month. Sling also offers many channel add-on packages starting at $6/month. Get 50% OFF $4.99+ / month sling.com Limited time: Get 50% OFF your first month of Sling TV Can you watch Pittsburgh vs. Notre Dame for free? If you are just looking for a streaming service to watch this specific game and nothing else, there are options available for you. DIRECTV , Hulu + Live TV , Fubo , and YouTube TV all offer free trials, but they vary in length, so be wary. DIRECTV’s industry-leading trial runs for five days, while Hulu + Live TV’s is a solid three days. Those are pretty straightforward, but when it comes to the sports-minded streamer Fubo, things can get a little complicated. As The Streamable’s expert David Satin discovered when signing up for the services, figuring out how long Fubo’s trial is — even as you are signing up — can be a bit difficult . Nonetheless, it will be at least one day, with the potential to be as many as seven, depending on a wide range of factors that Fubo does not share publicly. The YouTube TV trial is said to be “up to two weeks,” but can be as short as two days. So it is difficult to ascertain what you are actually getting before you go through the signup process. If you are looking to watch the game for free, I would recommend DIRECTV , because that streamer has the longest guaranteed free trial and gives you the best channel options. What are all of the streamers you can use to watch the Pittsburgh vs. Notre Dame? Fortunately for football fans, there are six different streaming services that will stream the game, so you have options to choose from if you don’t already subscribe to any of them. We discussed Sling and the free trial options above, but there is one more, and it offers a different type of streaming arrangement. Ahead of the football season, the worldwide leader in sports launched a first-of-its-kind streaming service. The new standalone ESPN direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming service is the home to everything available on ESPN’s linear channels — including the Pittsburgh vs. Notre Dame game — as well as everything that was previously found on ESPN+ . The Unlimited tier of the service runs $30 per month, but is available in various bundles to make it even more affordable. Haunting questions of truth rise in 'Chernobyl'
Haunting questions of truth rise in 'Chernobyl'
The 2019 HBO miniseries slipped by me when it was first released, but its lessons are just as important today as they were when the series came out. One of the reasons it’s so hard to leave my HBO Max subscription behind, despite long periods in which I don’t watch anything on the streamer, is that I know it holds a large selection of TV shows that will bowl me over once I actually give them a chance. HBO has had plenty of prestige TV misses over the years, but its hits are ample proof that it still deserves a premium reputation. One of those hits that I hadn’t given a try until now is “Chernobyl ,” the 2019 HBO miniseries which tells the true story of the worst nuclear disaster in human history. The show not only documents the disaster itself, but also the immediate aftermath and investigation into a devastating accident that should never have happened. Sign Up $10.99+ / month max via prime video The series is HBO at its best, with an ensemble cast of unfailingly powerhouse performances, spectacular dialogue, and production values that make the viewer feel as if they have been transported into a 1986 nuclear power plant in Soviet Ukraine, or to the starkly constructed, utilitarian city of Pripyat. Any time a show plans an image into my head that I’ll never forget is a noteworthy occurrence, and “Chernobyl” does it twice through the course of its five-episode run. The image of a burning nuclear reactor terrifies me in a way that no special-effects-generated monster ever could, and the unspeakable transformation of a human being into a radiation-poisoned creature in the show’s third episode is an image so graphic I’m not sure I can ever watch it again without looking away. Fans of other HBO shows from the 2010s will see plenty of familiar faces in the cast; I seemed to count at least a half-dozen actors I recognized from “Game of Thrones ” in the series. But as stated above, all of these performers carry their weight, and the show’s trio of stars — Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård, and Emily Watson — are stupendous in their respective roles as nuclear scientist Valery Legasov, Communist party official Boris Shcherbina, and scientist Ulana Khomyuk. Each of these characters — with the exception of Khomyuk, who served as a composite of dozens of different scientists who contributed to the Chernobyl containment and cleanup — is based on a real-life figure who was central to the disaster. That’s the most haunting thing about “Chernobyl” — the real-life lessons about the truth that carry on into the 20th century. The show advances that the Chernobyl disaster was not only caused by operator error on the fateful day of the accident, but by design flaws that were covered up by the Soviet government to avoid losing face on an international stage. Those decisions created an ecological cataclysm the world won’t recover fully from in our lifetimes, and the show’s writing doesn’t try to avoid the fact that the Soviet government and the Communist way of life contributed greatly to what happened at Chernobyl in 1986. But those lessons aren’t only applicable to a single style of government or political philosophy. In a time where journalists are asked to sign a pledge not to obtain information specifically authorized by government agencies, the lessons of “Chernobyl” show themselves to be every bit as relevant now as they were in 1986, or in 2019 when the show was first released. Truth is present no matter what efforts are made to conceal it, and many times trying to hide the truth leads to deadly consequences. I realize I’m a bit late to the boat on “Chernobyl,” but I’m also sure that other viewers saw the show’s difficult subject matter and decided to skip it when it was first released. If you haven’t watched it yet, I can’t recommend streaming it on HBO Max at the earliest opportunity highly enough. What to do when you're ready to cancel YouTube TV
What to do when you're ready to cancel YouTube TV
We’ll make it easy to cancel your YouTube TV account if you’re ready to try something new. YouTube TV is a good, general live TV streaming service. It carries popular cable channels and local broadcast networks for most customers, but since its latest price increase and now ongoing issues with Disney — losing multiple channels including ABC and ESPN — the value of the streamer has really taken a hit with no resolution in sight. Additionally, outside of its multiview feature, YouTube TV offers very few features that others don’t, and at a price of $83 per month, it’s no longer remarkably cheaper than the competition. If those factors have convinced you that it’s time to move on from your YouTube TV subscription, we’ll show you how to do it below. We’ll also let you know which services you should try once you’ve nixed your YouTube TV account for good! Sling has a wide range of on-demand content available, but are you allowed to download any of it for offline viewing? Sling TV is quite well known for providing customers with a superior level of content, as well as choice. Sling offers smaller channel packages, it’s true, but it still provides most of the biggest-name cable channels on the market, and a variety of subscription options lets customers choose how long they want to watch for and which channels they receive. Most live TV streaming services like Sling don’t allow viewers to download TV shows and movies for offline viewing; that feature is normally reserved for on-demand streaming services. While these are also not available to be downloaded, they give Sling customers access to a great selection of content at any time — without being beholden to live viewing schedules. Sling plans also come with 50 hours of Cloud DVR included, so you can at least record and watch TV shows and movies with your plan. STARZ adds streaming subs, but other earnings data not so rosy
The company suffered losses in its linear audience, and losses widened as compared to the year-ago quarter. Earnings report season is in full swing, and STARZ is the latest company to drop its report to the public. STARZ published its third-quarter earnings this week, and while the data held good news for those tracking the company’s streaming success, its other results were unfortunately far less encouraging as STARZ tries to forge its path as an independent company. Key Details: Target missed: STARZ lost $52.6 million during Q3, missing Wall Street expectations. Streaming bright spot: The company added 110,000 streaming subscribers in the quarter. Not enough: When combined with linear losses, STARZ shed 130,000 net customers in the quarter. Sign Up $10.99+ / month Starz STARZ didn’t meet Wall Street expectations during the third quarter of 2025, posting a loss of $52.6 million and a revenue step-back of 8% to $320.9 million. Its linear subscribership suffered as well, as the company lost 240,000 subs to land at 5.17 million. STARZ ended the second quarter with 5.4 million linear customers. The company was able to add 110,000 streaming customers in the third quarter, rising to 12.3 million total. Over-the-top revenue was $222.8 million in the third quarter, as compared to $232 million in the year-ago quarter. In Q2, STARZ lost 120,000 streaming subscribers, so it has at least made up for those losses heading into the final three-month period of the year. Overall, STARZ now has a total of 17.5 million streaming and linear subscribers. “Starz continues to execute well in a rapidly changing operating environment,” CEO Jeff Hirsch said during the company’s earnings call. “While the media industry continues to face significant headwinds, we are confident in our ability to deliver on our plan, and we are well-positioned to take advantage of the structural changes we expect to take place in the sector over the next 12-24 months.” STARZ plans to decrease its year-over-year content investment to help improve its free cash flow, and Hirsch told analysts he believes that the company can improve its audience size without having to resort to price increases to generate more revenue. The company may also be looking to acquire more assets in the future via mergers and acquisitions. Hirsch said that STARZ is “uniquely positioned” to pursue viable assets, thanks to its “track record of profitably converting our business from linear to digital and our industry-leading tech stack.” The CEO did not comment on the assets that he had his eyes on. Sign Up Starz STARZ STARZ offers a subscription video streaming service that gives access to content on the STARZ channel without the need of a cable subscription. Each has been running numbers and enlisting bankers to determine how much they can afford to pay for the WBD assets they want, but the time to gather that preliminary information is just about finished, as Warner has informed them they have just a few days left to submit actual bids. Key Details: Deadline set: WBD wants initial bids submitted by Nov. 20. Who wants what?: Netflix and Comcast only want a part of WBD, while Paramount wants the whole company. Getting political?: The current presidential administration could play a big role in the final outcome of the bidding process. Sign Up $10.99+ / month max via prime video Per exclusive reporting from The Wall Street Journal , WBD has set a deadline of Nov. 20 for companies to submit nonbinding first-round bids. The company is holding an auction process and wants to have that process complete by the end of 2025. Paramount has already submitted multiple offers for WBD, but all have been rejected thus far. It will participate in the auction process and prefers to submit an all-cash bid that would see it acquire all of Warner Bros. Discovery — its streaming and movie studio segment, as well as its linear assets. Netflix’s interest has was first established in September , but unlike Paramount, it only wants to acquire WBD’s streaming and studio assets. Comcast, too, only wants this portion of WBD, and does not want to purchase cable assets like TNT , Food Network , HGTV , and other networks. What resources does each company have to pursue WBD? Netflix has plenty of cash on hand to make a deal and can essentially afford to pay whatever it wants. Paramount is backed by billionaire Larry Ellison, father of company CEO David Ellison, and a person close to Comcast told WSJ that the company is “financially strong” and able to make an earnest offer. Politics could play a big role in whoever ends up succeeding in their pursuit of WBD. The Trump administration has shown plenty of willingness to intercede in media transactions if it thinks it can gain an advantage by doing so, and policy advisor and former FCC official Blair Levin told WSJ that it could be “hard” for Netflix to successfully acquire any of WBD, as conservatives have no love for company co-founder Reed Hastings. Trump has long been a public critic of Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, and some think that personal enmity could prompt regulators to block any deal between that company and WBD. Before that step in the process is reached, however, WBD must receive actual bids from all interested parties, and initial offers are due by Nov. 20. Apple to move all MLS games to Apple TV in 2026
Apple to move all MLS games to Apple TV in 2026
MLS Season Pass will soon be no more, as starting next season Apple will offer all MLS games on its flagship streamer at no extra cost. Apple is making a dramatic shift in the way it distributes Major League Soccer games. The company has announced that it would be discontinuing MLS Season Pass , the streaming service it established to offer all MLS games when it signed its landmark deal with the league in 2026. Starting next season, all MLS games will be available to stream with an Apple TV subscription, and no other add-ons or extra purchases will be required. Key Details: Sunset season: MLS Season Pass will be shut down, and all MLS games moved to Apple TV. No extra cost: Viewers will only have to pay the cost of an Apple TV subscription to watch. Stunning admission: The decision to end MLS Season Pass can be interpreted as a blunt acknowledgement of the failure of the streamer. 7-Day Free Trial $12.99+ / month apple.com Viewers will not have to pay anything extra to watch MLS games in 2026, as long as they have an active Apple TV subscription. Previously, Apple TV subscribers could enjoy a small discount on MLS Season Pass if they subscribed to both services, with a few free games thrown in, but now all MLS games will be included on Apple TV at no extra charge. That’s the way Apple will distribute Formula 1 races as well. In October, Apple made a deal with F1 to stream all of its Grand Prix events on the Apple TV streaming service, with no additional purchases required on the part of fans. Apple TV costs $13 per month. “We’re thrilled to bring MLS to more fans around the world next season on Apple TV,” Apple SVP of services Eddy Cue said. “Every match, all in one place, alongside incredible Apple Originals — it’s a win for fans everywhere.” Apple first signed its deal to stream all MLS games in 2022, and created the MLS Season Pass streaming service to make each season an immersive experience for soccer fans. The streamer cost $15 per month on its own, and Apple’s decision to shut it down and offer all of its content on Apple TV at no extra cost can be interpreted as a blunt admission of MLS Season Pass’s failure. “Our partnership with Apple has always been about innovating for our fans,” MLS commissioner Don Garber said. “Bringing every MLS match to Apple TV takes that vision to the next level by making it easier than ever for fans everywhere to watch, connect, and be part of the game.” Earlier this year, reports began to surface that MLS executives weren't thrilled with the results they were seeing from their deal with Apple. Some team owners wanted to put more games on linear TV, and many agreed that housing all games on MLS Season Pass created a worse fan experience. The move to shut the service down is an attempt to meet those unhappy owners halfway on Apple’s part. 7-Day Trial apple.com Apple TV Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $12.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. … The service is available worldwide through the Apple TV app, which is built into Apple devices and supported on most smart TVs, streaming players like Roku and Fire TV, game consoles, and web browsers. Subscribers can watch on demand, download episodes and movies for offline viewing, and stream in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, where available. Apple TV also offers family sharing, allowing up to six people to use one subscription at no extra cost. In October 2025, Apple TV agreed to a deal with Formula 1 to carry all F1 races starting with the 2026 season. With a competitive monthly price and bundles available through Apple One — which combines Apple TV with Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud storage, and more — the service continues to grow as a key part of Apple’s ecosystem. Apple TV delivers one of the strongest collections of exclusive content in the streaming space for viewers seeking prestige originals, cinematic storytelling, and seamless access across devices. 7-Day Trial $12.99+ / month apple.com

Gemini Air hands-on: How it compares to Roku and Fire TV
Gemini Air hands-on: How it compares to Roku and Fire TV
The hardware is great for DIRECTV users, but how does it stack up for everyone else? The Gemini Air is a hardware offering from DIRECTV that brings all of your streaming goodness together in one place. Everything from Netflix to HBO Max and Disney+ to Apple TV can be accessed easily, not to mention the plethora of DIRECTV live and on-demand channels (depending on your subscription tier) that are right at your fingertips. Now, while this may sound like every other streaming device — namely, Roku and Fire TV — it is and it isn’t. Yes, the Gemini Air is a streaming device that helps you cut the cord. And yes, it can run pretty much any app from any third-party streaming service. So, what makes the Gemini Air special? And special enough to justify using it over the device you already own at that? Let’s take a quick look at how it compares to the streamers you know and love, and why it might just be the best streamer for DIRECTV subscribers. 5-Day Free Trial $19.99+ / month directv.com Start streaming DIRECTV & save $40 off your first month of service. Learn how. What is the Gemini Air The Gemini Air is a streaming dongle offered by DIRECTV that combines live TV, on-demand content, and streaming apps into one device. Yes, this is what your current streaming device may already do, but the Gemini Air adds on plenty of features that may make it worth a look, especially if you’re a DIRECTV subscriber. It supports 4K output (assuming you have a 4K TV and the content supports it) and is built on an Android-TV type platform that supports Google Assistant/voice search and the Google Play store, so you can use standard streaming apps like Netflix , Prime Video , and HBO Max in addition to your DIRECTV live content. You’ll get all these apps integrated on your home screen and even in the channel guide. Unlike other streamers, which require a separate DIRECTV app for content, Gemini Air puts it all front and center, including live channels, add-on channels, and DVR. In short, it’s DIRECTV’s answer to the pure streaming devices that many cord-cutters use — but with an emphasis on integrating live-TV and streaming in a unified experience. You also get additional features, such as multiview, which are not available through the app on standalone devices. For DIRECTV users, it’s genuinely the best streaming experience you’ll find. What makes it special? Compared to Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, or other streaming devices, the Gemini Air excels in its seamless integration of live television and streaming apps into a single interface. For those who rely heavily on DIRECTV, this eliminates the need to use the app on another device or even manage multiple devices. Everything lives under one roof, making everyday viewing simpler and more seamless. From the home screen, you can easily access everything you need, including the channel guide and DVR content, providing a more traditional cable experience, which many users may prefer. You also get a very cable-tv-like remote, complete with navigation controls, channel buttons, a guide button, and voice control. Some of the most significant advantages include: Unified live-TV and app experience: No need to bounce between apps or devices; the Gemini Air brings live channels, DVR, and streaming apps together. Robust remote with voice control: The Google Assistant–powered remote can find shows, launch apps, or change channels with simple voice commands. DIRECTV ecosystem support: Full access to cloud DVR recordings, live channel guides, add-on channels, and 72-hour lookback features. Multiview: Sports fans will love the ability to watch four channels at once, something you won’t find through the DIRECTV app on other devices. That said, the Gemini Air isn’t perfect for everyone. While it’s excellent for DIRECTV users, it may feel limiting if you’re used to a more open device like Roku or Fire TV. Then again, if you’re not using DIRECTV, you honestly have no real reason to even think about the Gemini Air. The app selection is still broad but not quite as deep as on some other platforms, and performance can vary depending on updates and network stability. You won’t find the community or support here that you do with the likes of Roku or Fire TV either, and there’s no clear upgrade path should the device not age well over time. Ultimately, Gemini Air is better for those who prioritize live TV and full integration over the freedom of a separate platform. Is it better? The Gemini Air offers something few streaming devices truly deliver — a genuine blend of live television and modern streaming in a single, intuitive experience. It’s ideal for anyone who wants to simplify their setup and access everything from a single interface without compromising visual quality or ease of use. Again, only DIRECTV customers need apply; there’s zero advantage to anyone without a DIRECTV subscription of some kind. It offers 4K HDR picture quality, a cable-like remote (one of my favorites) for convenience, with voice search and smart controls, seamless switching between live channels and streaming apps, and a simple setup process and integration with third-party apps. Still, the Gemini Air isn’t trying to replace Roku or Fire TV outright — it’s carving out its own niche. If you’re committed to DIRECTV and prefer a streamlined, all-in-one approach, it’s an excellent choice. But if you like experimenting with different services or prefer a neutral device that works equally well with any app ecosystem, a Roku or Fire TV might be a better fit. Don’t overlook the cost, either. The Gemini Air will run you $10 per month with a DIRECTV subscription, which, if you’re truly all-in on DIRECTV, might not be terrible given all the amazing features it has to offer. Still, given that you can get a new Roku stick for under $25 , it might not add up for some users. In short, Gemini Air is ideal for DIRECTV users who want their live TV and streaming services to coexist — no switching, no juggling, just everything together in one seamless, connected experience. My full review is coming soon — stay tuned! 5-Day Trial directv.com DIRECTV DIRECTV is one of The Streamable’s top choices for the best live TV streaming service overall, especially for users who want the most channels. I wish Netflix would add a dedicated sports tab
I wish Netflix would add a dedicated sports tab
Netflix is adding new live sports all the time. It’s time for them to have their own section on the streamer’s interface. Netflix is adding new kinds of content all the time, and its library is already overwhelmingly large. Its catalog runs the risk of being too much for the average customer to handle were it not for the streamer’s top-notch recommendation algorithm, which is my favorite feature of the service . One thing that Netflix has been adding a lot more of lately is live sports, but the streamer’s interface hasn’t quite kept up with these additions. Given the number of sports Netflix has acquired, and the marquee nature of the events, I think it’s high time the streamer added a Sports tab to its user interface to navigate to sports content more quickly. Sign Up $7.99+ / month netflix.com The Netflix user interface on smart TVs underwent a big change in 2025. The streamer banished its left-hand menu and has moved all the navigation options to the top of the screen, where users will find Search, Home, Shows, Movies, and My Netflix. I propose that the streamer add a new tab to this row: Sports. Having a Sports tab would give Netflix users a way to find top live events with just the click of a button when Netflix has them available. The streamer has a formidable lineup of sporting content; in addition to sports entertainment like “WWE Raw” each week, Netflix offers live NFL games on Christmas, boxing matches, celebrity golf and tennis tournaments, and starting in 2026, the MLB Home Run Derby, among other properties. While Netflix continues to insist that it will be disciplined in its pursuit of live sports in the future, it’s easy to see a time when the platform has a pretty significant lineup of live sports offerings. Adding a Sports tab to its interface now would allow it to get ahead of that influx and work out any bugs or kinks before it has a daily lineup of live events to offer. It’s not just live sports that Netflix could put into a Sports tab, either. The streamer now has an impressive selection of sports documentaries following teams like the Chicago Bulls and Dallas Cowboys , and performers like Patrick Mahomes, Max Verstappen, and more of the world’s most-recognized names. It would be a simple thing to move these titles into the Sports tab for easy access by fans. To Netflix’s credit, it has not introduced any plans to make customers pay more for live sports access — though of course, that could change in the future. But there are a large and increasing number of sporting events on Netflix, as well as on-demand content featuring some of the world’s most famous teams and players. Having a dedicated Sports tab would make it a lot easier to access this content easily, and would be the feature I’d suggest Netflix seriously consider adding to its user experience next. Sign Up netflix.com Netflix Netflix is a leading subscription-based video streaming service that offers on-demand access to an extensive library of over 3,000 movies, 2,000+ TV shows, and a growing collection of acclaimed Netflix Originals. Renowned for its ability to produce groundbreaking content, Netflix has become a cultural powerhouse with hit originals like “Stranger Things,” “Wednesday,” “Squid Game,” “The Crown,” “Tiger King,” “Bridgerton,” “The Witcher,” and “Black Mirror.” … The platform constantly updates its catalog, introducing fresh content alongside timeless classics and international hits. Netflix’s commitment to storytelling has also earned critical acclaim, with award-winning exclusives such as “Roma,” “Marriage Story,” “The Power of the Dog,” “Mank,” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” In 2023, their animated film “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, further solidifying Netflix’s reputation for high-quality content. Netflix offers three plans – stream on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard with Ads” ($7.99) plan, on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard” ($17.99) plan, and 4 devices in up to 4K on the “Premium” ($24.99) plan. No, unfortunately, there is no way to download a TV show or movie with your DIRECTV subscription. Downloading titles for offline viewing is a feature normally reserved for on-demand streaming services with paid subscriptions, since making a show available for download if that content isn’t owned by the streamer in question depends on licensing agreements and other factors. DIRECTV doesn’t create any original content of its own, and that makes it much more difficult for it to offer TV shows and movies for downloading and watching offline. Does DIRECTV have a DVR feature? Yes, it does! While you can’t watch any of DIRECTV’s shows and movies offline, you can use its unlimited Cloud DVR to record live programming for watching on demand. Unlimited DVR comes with all DIRECTV Signature and Genre plans, so as long as you’ve got a paid subscription to the service, you’ll be ready to record. Amazon strengthens illegal streaming barriers on Fire TV
Amazon strengthens illegal streaming barriers on Fire TV
The company is taking further steps to ensure that Fire TV devices cannot be used to stream sports illegally. Illegal sports streams continue to be a challenge for leagues and distributors alike. Technological advancements that make it easier for viewers to access sports legally also make it easier for criminals to provide them illegally, and tools like Amazon Fire TV streaming devices are often used to disseminate illegal sports broadcasts. But new reporting indicates that Amazon is taking specific steps to curb the practice, using its tech to stream sports unlawfully. Key Details: Getting tough: Amazon is stepping up efforts to block apps that stream content illegally from Fire TV devices. New product: The Fire TV Stick 4K Select only allows apps found in Amazon’s app store to be downloaded. Closing the door: Open developer software on Fire TV sticks makes them easier to use for piracy purposes. 30-Day Free Trial $8.99+ / month amazon.com The Athletic was the first to report details of Amazon’s newest efforts to keep criminals from using Fire TV sticks to provide illegal sports streams. Those efforts begin with the new Amazon Fire TV 4K Select stick, which uses enhanced security measures to prevent piracy apps — even those sideloaded onto Fire TV devices. Only apps available in the Amazon App Store will be available for customers to download onto the Fire TV 4K Select stick, and apps identified as providing access to pirated content will be blocked from the devices. Amazon’s new Vega OS is replacing the Android-built Fire TV on Amazon devices, and specifically tells customers it does not support installation of apps not available in the Fire TV store. Per data from The Athletic, 31% of illegal streams in the United Kingdom over the past six months have been done on Fire TV and other internet protocol television devices — second only to websites (42%) as the most popular way to illegally stream TV. “Piracy is illegal and we’ve always worked to block it from our app store,” an Amazon spokesperson told The Athletic. “We’ll now block apps identified as providing access to pirated content, including those downloaded from outside our app store. This builds on our ongoing efforts to support creators and protect customers, as piracy can also expose users to malware, viruses and fraud.” Amazon has always made efforts to combat this illegal usage, but previous iterations of the Fire TV stick featured open developer software that made it easier to upload illegal streaming apps onto the devices. The company says its current efforts to stop the use of its players for illegal streaming will extend to older devices as well. 30-Day Trial amazon.com Prime Video Prime Video is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 10,000+ movies, TV shows, and Prime Originals like “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” “Jack Ryan,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “The Boys,” and more. This entry-level package provides access to local broadcast affiliates 19 of the leading 35 cable channels channels, and valuable regional sports networks (RSNs). Inclusive of their RSN Fee, your estimated total monthly cost will be around $84.99. It’s worth noting that Fubo was formerly branded as “fuboTV.” … However, prospective subscribers should be aware that the streaming service does not currently offer channels from Warner Bros. Discovery (including CNN, TBS, and TNT), A+E Networks (such as A&E, History Channel, and Lifetime), or AMC Networks (which includes AMC, BBC America, and WE tv). Consequently, in our assessment, if your primary viewing includes NBA games, which are frequently broadcast on TBS and TNT, exploring alternative live TV streaming providers might be a better fit. Conversely, for many other sports enthusiasts, particularly those prioritizing access to local sports broadcasts, Fubo presents a compelling choice in our view. Featuring FanDuel Sports RSNs within its channel offerings, Fubo stands out as the most budget-friendly option for RSN access in numerous markets, including networks like Altitude, AT&T Sports, Fox Sports, Marquee, MSG, NBC Sports, and NESN. Pac-12 teaming with USA Network for football, basketball games
USA will provide a large selection of Pac-12 football games starting in 2026. The Pac-12 is about to undergo a major expansion. The conference has just two schools as of now, but will expand to nine full members in 2026-27. The conference has already announced partnerships for some of its media rights for top sporting events, but on Thursday, the conference announced another new partnership — this time with USA Network , which will get a large selection of top Pac-12 games. Key Details: New team member: USA Sports has agreed to a five-year deal with the Pac-12 starting next year. Biggest football partner: USA will get 22 regular season Pac-12 football games. Not going to Peacock: USA Network is now part of Versant, and the games have no on-demand streaming partner as of now. That includes 22 regular-season football games each season for the next five years; The CW will get 13 football games from the conference, with CBS , [CBS Sports], and Paramount+ combining to offer at least 13 more — including the conference championship. USA Network will also get 50 regular-season men’s basketball games each year, as well as games from the Pac-12 conference championship tournament. The channel will also receive five to 10 women’s basketball games per season, while The CW and Paramount platforms will pitch in to distribute the conference’s basketball schedule as well. The deals will mean that all of the conference’s football games will be available on nationally available TV channels, either broadcast or cable networks. Over 70% of Pac-12 regular-season basketball games will be broadcast across the same channels, helping the conference continue to grow its audience as it adds new schools. The USA Network is in the process of being spun off with the majority of other NBCUniversal-owned cable channels into a new company called Versant. While Versant has teamed with its former corporate sibling Peacock on some sports rights, they don't have a comprehensive deal yet , and at the moment, there is no streaming agreement that will bring Pac-12 games slated to air on USA to any on-demand streaming service. Netflix rises to No. 1 on Top 10 list of US streamers
Netflix rises to No. 1 on Top 10 list of US streamers
Based on estimated numbers of subscribers, Parks Associates has Netflix surpassing Prime Video on the top 10 list of American streamers. More and more streaming services are refusing to offer concrete subscriber numbers with their quarterly earnings reports. Netflix no longer provides such data, and Disney+ and Hulu released their final subscriber total update with their most recent earnings numbers . That’s where Parks Associates comes in; Parks’ Streaming Video Tracker is frequently updated with new estimates of each streamer’s subscriber total in the United States. Parks has now unveiled its Top 10 list of streaming services of 2025 based on data from the Streaming Video Tracker, and there have been some major changes at the top of the stack this year. Key Details: Netflix No. 1: Netflix has surpassed Prime Video at the top of Parks’ list. Disney battle: Hulu jumped past Disney+ on the list in the most recent quarter. YouTube climbing: The paid YouTube Premium plan has climbed to No. 9 on the list. 30-Day Free Trial $8.99+ / month amazon.com Netflix has gotten comfortable as the top streaming service in the world, but per Parks, it hasn’t been the biggest streaming service in terms of U.S. customers until the end of September. For the first time since 2021, Netflix is now the No. 1 streaming service in the United States by subscribers, surpassing Prime Video . The No. 3 spot on the list still belongs to a Disney-owned streaming service, but not the same Disney streamer that occupied that position in 2024. Hulu now has the third-largest subscriber total in the United States per Parks, with Disney+ coming in just behind in fourth place. That data was confirmed by the earnings report released by Disney on Thursday; a large portion of Hulu’s new subscribership came thanks to a distribution deal with Spectrum TV that gave customers of its TV plans access to the streamer at no cost. “Hulu’s jump past Disney+ is a result of smart distribution strategy,” Parks senior analyst Michael Goodman said. “The Charter deal gave Hulu instant access to millions of households, reinforcing how vital partnerships between broadband providers and streamers have become in defining the new entertainment bundle, and the ability to scale.” Parks Associates SVOD rankings Rank 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 1 Netflix Netflix Prime Video Prime Video Prime Video Netflix 2 Prime Video Prime Video Netflix Netflix Netflix Prime Video 3 Hulu Disney+ Hulu Hulu Disney+ Hulu 4 Disney+ Hulu Disney+ Disney+ Hulu Disney+ 5 ESPN+ HBO Max HBO Max Max Peacock Peacock 6 HBO Max ESPN+ ESPN+ Paramount+ Max Paramount+ 7 Apple TV Paramount+ Paramount+ ESPN+ Paramount+ HBO Max 8 CBS All Access Apple TV+ Apple TV+ Peacock Apple TV+ Apple TV+ 9 SHOWTIME STARZ Peacock Apple TV+ ESPN+ YouTube Premium 10 STARZ SHOWTIME STARZ YouTube Premium YouTube Premium ESPN+ Peacock , Paramount+ , HBO Max , and Apple TV take spots five through eight on the Parks list, and the paid YouTube Premium service climbed to No. 9 this year. ESPN+ rounds out the top 10, which has featured the same 10 services in various orders since 2023. The ascendance of YouTube Premium demonstrates the continued strength of YouTube’s user base. YouTube viewership, including its free, ad-supported platform routinely surpasses all streamers , including Netflix, and even its paid, ad-free Premium service, attracts enough subscribers to beat out ESPN+. The data from Parks offers a fascinating snapshot of where American streaming services stand heading into the final quarter of the year. Netflix is back on top again, but each streamer continues to jockey for position heading into a 2026 that will see Hulu integrated into Disney+, could see a sale of Warner Bros. Discovery, and will undoubtedly be a year of major changes in streaming overall. What are all the different ways to get a Netflix subscription?
You can always sign up for Netflix directly, but you can also get it through a number of different third-party services. There’s more than one way to bundle a streaming service in 2025, as more and more customers are finding out. Gone are the days when viewers had to simply purchase a streaming subscription directly; now, there are any number of third-party platforms that allow customers to buy additional streaming subscriptions, as well as telecom and pay-TV companies that bundle streaming services with their other subscription products. Netflix may be thought of by some as a streamer with a strong enough reputation that it can afford to shun such partnerships, but that’s not the case. You can get a Netflix subscription in a variety of ways, and we’ll show you all the methods you can use below! What are all the ways you can sign up for Netflix? Directly Through T-Mobile With Verizon Through Optimum With the StreamSaver bundle Via Frontier Internet Sign Up $7.99+ / month netflix.com Directly The simplest way to sign up for Netflix is directly through the streamer's website . Specifically, the Experience More and Experience Beyond voice plans come with this Netflix subscription at no extra cost. With Verizon Verizon offers customers who sign up for its Unlimited Welcome, Unlimited Plus, or Unlimited Ultimate plans to purchase a bundle of Netflix and HBO Max for only $10 per month — a discount of $9 off what you would pay to sign up to both streamers separately. Viewers can also pay more to upgrade to ad-free versions of these streamers if they wish. Through Optimum In November 2025, Optimum announced that TV and internet customers on select plans would get a free Netflix Standard with Ads subscription. The promotion is available with Optimum internet plans starting at 500 Mbps or faster for new customers, and with Optimum Extra TV or Everything TV plans as well. Disney, Google CEOs join YouTube TV carriage negotiations
Disney, Google CEOs join YouTube TV carriage negotiations
A deal between the two sides could be moving closer to the finish line, avoiding a blackout of ESPN and other channels for a third weekend of sports. With another weekend drawing closer, YouTube TV subscribers are probably angrily anticipating missing top college football games on ABC and ESPN , and potentially “Monday Night Football” as well. But there may be reason to hope that such games will indeed be available to YouTube TV customers, as reports indicate that the streamer may be closing in on a new carriage deal with Disney that will allow the channels to be restored. Key Details: Getting there: The Athletic reports “potential renewed momentum” in carriage talks between YouTube TV and Disney. Big questions answered: The outstanding issue between the two is how much YouTube TV will pay for Disney’s non-sports channels. The bosses are here: CEOs of Disney and YouTube’s parent company, Google, are more involved in talks. Sign Up $82.99+ / month tv.youtube.com Andrew Marchand of the New York Times reported on Wednesday that there was “potential renewed momentum” for a new carriage deal between Disney and YouTube TV. At the moment, the biggest issue between the two sides is how much YouTube TV should pay for channels like FX and National Geographic that don’t carry live sports, according to Marchand. Disney-owned channels have been blacked out on YouTube TV since the end of October. Distributors are often forced by programmers to take less popular channels in a package with sports networks that are widely consumed. Disney says that it gives discounts based on bundled prices for all of its channels, but YouTube TV is likely trying to nudge that price even lower. Marchand also reports that Disney CEO Bob Iger and Google chief executive Sundar Pichai are getting more involved in the negotiations, which could be another sign that talks are moving forward. Iger talked about the negotiations on Thursday morning, during Disney’s conference call with analysts to discuss its quarterly earnings report. “The deal that we have proposed is equal to or better than what other large distributors have already agreed to,” Iger said. “So, we’re not trying to really break any new ground. And while we’ve been working wirelessly to close this deal and restore our channels to the platform, it’s also imperative that we make sure that [a deal] reflects the value that we deliver, which both YouTube, by the way, and Alphabet have told us is greater than the value of any other provider.” Disney chief financial officer Hugh Johnston spoke about the dispute on CNBC on Thursday morning as well, saying that negotiations were ongoing, but also stating that Disney is “ready to go as long as they want to” when referring to the “challenging battle” with YouTube TV. There is clear interest by both sides in restoring Disney-owned channels to YouTube TV, but the deal isn’t done yet.
