It was a big week of show renewal announcements and first looks around the streaming world.
With earnings report season in full swing, the news this week was packed with stories from some of the biggest studios and streaming services in the United States. Disney and other entertainment companies dropped major headlines in the course of the week along with their quarterly earnings results, and as a consequence, some lesser stories were buried.

‘The Pitt’ headed to TNT
HBO Max seems to have yet another major hit on its hands with the medical drama “The Pitt .” The show’s first season won five Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series in September, and Season 2 is coming in January 2026.
On Monday, WBD announced that “The Pitt” will come to basic cable for the first time. The show will premiere on TNT at 9 p.m. ET on Monday, Dec. 1. Three episodes will air back-to-back on that date, and each subsequent Monday starting at the same time through Dec. 29 on the channel.

‘Dune: Prophecy’ Season 2 production begins
Staying in the HBO Max universe, the original drama series “Dune: Prophecy ” is coming back for a second season, following the release of Season 1 in November 2024. On Tuesday, WBD announced “Dune: Prophecy” had officially begun production, and shared a quick behind-the-scenes reel from the set. Fans can probably expect the series to return later in 2026.

‘Alien: Earth’ renewed for Season 2
Disney wants to stay in business with showrunner and creator Noah Hawley, and the feeling is mutual. On Tuesday, Deadline reported that Hawley had agreed to a new overall deal with Disney Entertainment Television, and that their partnership would include a second season of the sci-fi series “Alien: Earth .” The show’s first season bowed on Hulu earlier this year, and met with mostly positive feedback from critics and audiences.

Almost 40% of internet households have a sports streamer
Parks Associates shared more data about the habits of streaming customers in the United States on Tuesday — specifically, the habits of sports fans. Research from Parks found that 38% of internet households in the United States now subscribe to at least one sports-specific streaming service, up from 4% in 2019.
The NFL continues to drive a great deal of viewership, with 82% of sports viewers in U.S. internet households saying they regularly watch NFL content during the season. Overall, the data shows that streaming products like the new ESPN service, as well as the increasing amount of rights deals that send games to streamers like Netflix and Prime Video have led to a major shift in the viewing behavior of sports fans.

ESPN launched its highly anticipated direct-to-consumer streaming service on August 21, 2025 . For the first time, this service gives sports fans access to its full lineup of linear channels without a traditional cable or satellite subscription.

The service is available in two tiers: ESPN Select, which includes everything offered on ESPN+, such as over 32,000 live events annually, studio shows, and on-demand replays; and ESPN Unlimited, which unlocks all ESPN linear channels — including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNEWS, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN on ABC — plus ESPN+ and ESPN3, totaling around 47,000 live events each year. Both plans may be purchased monthly or annually.
Subscribers can enjoy extensive coverage of the NFL, NBA, MLB, college sports, UFC, soccer, tennis, and more, as well as original programming, studio shows, and “30 for 30” documentaries. Starting in 2026, the platform will become the exclusive U.S. streaming home for WWE’s premium live events, including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble.
NFL Network and NFL RedZone are also included through a partnership between the NFL and ESPN, adding draft coverage, preseason games, and NFL+ Premium features. The enhanced ESPN app will feature Multiview for watching multiple games simultaneously, real-time stats, betting and fantasy tools, personalized highlight reels, and even e-commerce options for tickets and merchandise.
Viewers can subscribe directly or bundle ESPN Unlimited with Disney+ and Hulu for $29.99 monthly in the first year. ‘A Different World’ sequel series coming to Netflix
The iconic ’90s sitcom “A Different World ” streams in its entirety on Netflix, and now it’s getting a sequel series on the streamer. As announced on Tuesday, the show will follow Deborah Wayne, the youngest daughter of Hillman College alumni Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.
The show will feature Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah, and original series creator Debbie Allen is returning as executive producer. Alijah Kai, Chibuikem Uche, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, and Kennedi Reece will also star in the series.

‘The Night Manager’ Season 2 shares first look
Tom Hiddleston will return for Season 2 of the Prime Video and BBC series “The Night Manager ,” the first season of which aired its finale in 2016. The show will follow British intelligence operative Jonathan Pine through a new story set in the present day, and will be released in January 2026.

The streaming service unveiled a preview of the second season of its kaiju-laden series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters ,” which will premiere on the streamer in February 2026. The date announcement was accompanied by a teaser of the new season, which you’ll be able to see below. The show stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm.
