Founded 80 years ago by engineers who wanted better working conditions, the Society of United Professionals now represents more than 10,000 professionals in the energy and legal sectors.

The Society is Local 160 of the IFPTE.
Today, the ON gov't announced a major milestone: it has approved OPG's plan to refurbish four CANDU nuclear reactors at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. Society President Rebecca Caron spoke today at the government's press conference. Watch her remarks here:

Another @oflabour.bsky.social Convention has come to an end. It's been an incredible week as we joined with our labour movement siblings to set a course for our provincial federation. Our delegation was out in full force to advocate for our members and build bridges with our union partners.

Last week, we participated in a consultation with the federal Sustainable Jobs Partnership Council, alongside nuclear sector union reps at Darlington Energy Complex. The Society proudly took a leadership role in organizing the consultation, in collaboration with the Council's Secretariat and OPG.

It was great to attend the launch of the new Nuclear Discovery Centre in Port Hope - a learning hub to explore the benefits of OPG's proposed nuclear generation project in Wesleyville. The hub provides a great opportunity for education and engagement with community stakeholders.

We had the privilege of participating in a fascinating roundtable, hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Canada, on global non-proliferation, nuclear disarmament, and cooperation on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Our nations have much to learn from each other.

On Aug. 25, MPPs from the Ontario NDP toured the
Nuclear Waste Management Organization's Demonstration and Discovery Centre. Those on the tour learned about the incredible work that Society members do to ensure that nuclear waste is managed safely. Thanks for joining us!

Congratulations to AC flight attendants who have won a new collective agreement. They courageously defined the unconstitutional Section 107 order to return to work and successfully pressured Air Canada back to the negotiating table. This is what happens when workers come together in #solidarity!
