As a show that covers Australia's media, it's selective amnesia, and the concrete effects that can have, the recent surge of One Nation is very much our concern, so tonight is going to be a deepdive about the long, cosy relationship between PHON and Oz media.
Tonight on Spin Cycle on @3rrrfm.bsky.social we go all in on One Nation, looking at the role the media has played in their continued, now strengthened, presence on our political landscape. Stefanovic voodoo dolls at the ready. Ramadan Mubarak to all who observe! 7pm with @theshufflediary.bsky.social

On a less grandiose front, I looked at how the Gallup poll -- which has abandoned recording presidential approval - completely distorted politics around the world: www.crikey.com.au/2026/02/17/u...
Polling was never a neutral force in American politics
There may well be a malign element to Gallup's decision to stop presidential polling, but it was never an uncomplicated good.

Longish read on "Wuthering Heights", and the history of adaptations: Emerald Fennell's theatrical take is full of sex and violence yet, it sanitises Emily Bronte's horror story probably more than any previous adaption.
www.crikey.com.au/2026/02/16/w...
Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights is haunted by nothing
'Wuthering Heights' lays traps for the audience, inviting them to search for meanings that are not there.

Whatever Gallup’s reasons for ceasing to record presidential approval ratings, it’s worth remembering how polling like this has disfigured politics, @theshufflediary.bsky.social writes.

Ever the contrarian, with the media yet again being called upon to tell people who Angus Taylor is, we thought we'd explain what he isn't: for example, he not well know. And he is not a details guy.

www.crikey.com.au/2026/02/12/w...
Who isn't Angus Taylor?
Given the number of 'who is Angus Taylor' pieces flooding the papers today, we thought we'd go against the grain.

Fabulous opening from @rachelwithers.bsky.social: "The Coalition’s achingly slow drip feed of a spill finally started flowing overnight, with Angus Taylor resigning from whatever role it was he held in shadow cabinet to spend more time counting the numbers."

Fantastic. Great move. Well done Angus.
Angus Taylor makes his move against Sussan Ley while Jane Hume jostles for deputy, but never underestimate the ambition of Tim Wilson.

Very, very grateful to @cathywilcox.bsky.social and @fionakatauskas.bsky.social for making some time to talk to me about the terrible loss of one of Australia's greatest ever political cartoonists, Jon Kudelka:

'Allergic to bullshit': Vale Jon Kudelka
The death of acclaimed political cartoonist Jon Kudelka comes at a time when the media can little afford to lose his independence and moral clarity.

Vale Jon Kudelka; not many better at summing up the issues of the day with great brevity and wit, but also with such vivid, arresting images. A true master of his art.

The graves of Anzac soldiers in Gaza have been desecrated. Where is The Australian's outrage?
The News Corp publication, usually quick to defend the memory of fallen Anzac soldiers, is quiet on the destruction of a grave in Gaza where more than 250 Australian servicemen are buried.

Opinion | “Whatever the specific grotesqueries of the Epstein files, they offer a glimpse at a system of chummy clandestine influence, the sort that does not die with one man,” @theshufflediary.bsky.social writes.
The Epstein files show that Australia, like many nations, is at the mercy of men like him
The latest release of files on Jeffrey Epstein show his attempts to casually influence elections and subvert democracy in countries all over the world.
