🌎Building a world where ALL kids can read
Just because you don’t see my anxiety and trauma doesn’t mean it’s not there.

Just because you don’t see how hard it is for my child to do do things that are easy for a neurotypical child doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

What do you do when family doesn’t understand your child’s neurodivergence?

When your child is struggling with reading or if you just want to help build a world where ALL kids can read like me, this podcast is ALWAYS the first step I recommend.

It’s an easy way to learn why we’re in this literacy crisis and how we can get out of it.
A bonus episode from Sold a Story is here!

@clpeak.bsky.social and @ehanford.bsky.social discuss statewide literacy curriculum lists & tackle the problems of relying on just one source.

Plus, TRL's @karikurto.bsky.social contributes and shares her expertise.

What if you stopped trying to be what people wanted you to be and started just being yourself? Even if that’s weird and awkward.

It’s hard to advocate for your child and trust your mom self when you’re going through tough stuff.

That’s how I’m feeling right now.

I just wish I could find a pediatrician who’s positive about neurodivergence and homeschooling.

How have you dealt?

Today I’m reminded of Anna Gillingham’s quote,
“Go as fast as you can and as slow as you need.”
I find I have the tendency to go too slow in our homeschool, the desire to know every concept had been mastered.
…And in the process boring my ADHD son.
How about you?

We know there’s a science behind teaching ALL kids to read, so why are we STILL in a literacy crisis?

It’s not (only) because of the pandemic …

Too many people have chosen to ignore the research, many times being sneaky about it.

Too many curriculums chose profit over helping our kids read.
February 19, 2025 at 12:39 AM
How did we get into this literacy crisis in the first place?

Colleges that train teachers
chose to follow educators with philosophies of how reading should be taught.

Not based on research.

But now we can now look into the brain and see what the most effective way to teach ALL kids to read.

So I made my own reading cards game!🙌🏼

Here’s a secret…it’s not because of the pandemic. Or at least that’s not the real reason….

Have you heard how reading scores are still declining according to the nation’s report card (US)?
Yes, it’s dismal…but you CAN do something about it. Yes, even if you’re a parent, not a teacher
