This is such an important thread, it's entirely the reason I'm working to meld their Fairness testing into curriculum at my college. Even outside of that, it's Very important to be aware of bias when writing anything that affects people.
Harm reduction is only harm reduction if it reduces harm. You *cannot* reduce harm by addressing a symptom, you have to address the system.

And the "Well, it's still useful if it gets it right 95% of the time?" Is not always true... if Black women are ~7% of the US population, receive the most abuse online *by far*, and it gets it wrong 50% of the time for them.😮

Bluesky's entire structure is finally being entirely de-tethered from its closed source pieces. Check out @bad-example.com on Bluesky their work towards an open social network.

Just got this #LoRa node ($17, though you can get even cheaper ones) running #meshtastic. It sends encrypted text messages to other nodes nearby, for free! NO INTERNET, OR NO CELL COMPANIES NEEDED.

Disruption and rebellion doesn’t always have to look violent, either. But when the laws are unjust, the people upholding the laws are unjust, then breaking the rules becomes necessary. What’s that statement everyone keeps saying? Oh yeah - good trouble. Do that.
Today is another reminder why statements like this are such an issue. Please think deeply about "the law" and the people that are seeking to uphold it. And the people that will work with police to "enforce" the law.
