That fuzzy green stuff you see isn’t always moss!! It may be a liverwort!

THIS ISN'T #MOSS! 💚

This is a #liverwort, which is related to moss as they are both #bryophytes.
Liverworts appear more flat compared to moss as their 'leaves' grow in rows, while moss' grow spirally around the stem. They also lack a midrib (the line down the middle of moss' leaves) #nature

I absolutely love finding these jelly fungi! This is cat’s tongue fungus, named after its fruiting body’s underside which is covered in jelly teeth that resemble a cat’s tongue!! 🐱👅

I’m outside on a nature wander, eating snacks, and admiring all the things that catch my eye - then probably watching a movie later tonight. Any recommendations?

Have you seen these droopy, white, flabby ribbons on barnacle covered rocks at low tide before?

These are EGGS from the barnacle eating dorid nudibranch (sea slug), as seen in the second photo. It’s SO camouflaged!!

Have you seen these rare icy hairs before? It forms thanks to a fungus?! ❄️🍄

This is hair ice, aka ice wool & frost beard. It’s a rare phenomenon because it needs specific conditions to grow, including just below freezing temperatures and the presence of a specific fungus called Exidiopsis effusa!
