You should enjoy yourself here, it’s the whole point.” Pushing up with a soft huff of exertion, Stephanivien planted both hands onto the bar and leaned forward to level his gaze just above hers. Eyes down, he caught a look she wished not to hand over and won his own sort of tournament. Pupils dilated with cheeks flushed with something she couldn’t pass off as the sun while standing in the shade. Cruelty, she thought, that he held all of this. “And what if I said that helping you would be what I enjoyed?” Stephanivien coaxed warmly, eyes lulling with hers as she struggled to focus. “Just tell me what to do.” "Aye" Snapping his attention back up to him, Orion's tail flicked behind him without thought. "Aye?" “Aye, I’ve looked at men how you’re describing. That answer your question?” Granson asked, tucking his arms against his chest. “Anythin’ else you need pry from my mystery?” Yes, Orion’s mind said with an eager sort of shout that rang in his ears. Yes, he wanted to know more. He wanted everything he had done, everyone he ever fancied. History that would affirm him that he was someone he could look at that way. History that would say ‘in another life I could’ve had you.’ But that was pointless, wasn’t it? Say he was his type. Say he did want him. Say that they had a glorious and fleeting moment of bliss before it all faded to white when Orion returned to the source. What would that change? What would it help? Nothing. After all, this wasn’t his world, he was just responsible for saving it. Nothing less. Nothing more. “No, that’s all I wanted,” Orion answered, voice drawing quiet with disappointment laced with bitter relief. “Consider me sated.” "Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I hadn't come over to the bar that day," Granson muttered, quirking his mouth into a smile. "A lot less interesting, I wager." "Far less!" Turning on his heel, Orion skipped forward a step and so with it his tail flicked in the air. "Come on, we have things to kill and information to gather. It looks like it will rain soon and while you might not be sugar and melt, I would hate for you to rust." A laugh left Granson at that and Orion stopped in his path, eyes widened with the response he received. "So, you do think I'm funny… I was starting to wonder if you just didn't have a sense of humor at all. Or rather, you did, but I wasn't part of it. A shame if true, thank the Gods it isn't." "You always talk like this or am I just special?" "Both, my blade," Orion offered, winking at him. Snatching a small towel, he wet it in the basin before wringing it out. Each little step known and done over and over between them for years now. Years. A fact Orion hadn't ruminated on much until this moment—how long had he been with him? It could be centuries and he would accept that answer easily. The thought must have rested on his expression for Granson's turned to mirror it in his own way. Soft and knowing. Granson was always soft and knowing. Handing him the towel to start cleaning off, he turned to retrieve his own and rolled his head on his neck. "Where is it we're to go, by the way? I'll admit I haven't heard a bleeding word all day after you put that outfit on this morning. Only the humming of wanting you has been up there taking space." As he drew the cloth against the last patch of slick, Orion blinked in realization and laughed. "I don't fucking know. Something about going back to Solution Nine, maybe. They always want to go back to fucking Solution Nine." "One day, they won't."
