Gamer. Puzzle lover. Software engineer. Manager. Games industry vet. I don't post much, but I care too much about friends to give up social media.
Days since I have gotten upset at work again: 1.

Only because it's technically after midnight.

I haven't finished it yet, but I'm reasonably certain I can call this shot:

Age of Calamity is way more memorable than Age of Imprisonment. It's not even close for me personally.

I have the need to write a Zelda fanfic that I once tried to write a long time ago before getting stuck on it. But now the idea is just burning to get out.
I haven't written fanfic in so long.

Did my first Bunnings sausage sizzle today. As I am told, it is a rite of passage, and certainly dealing with the lunch crowd felt like it!

It's almost time! twitch.tv/pax2 Let's make a Zelda game!

Saw honest-to-goodness comedienne #MelanieBracewell at #PAXAus. Apparently she got second at a League of Legends tourney there, which is pretty dope.

#PAXAus has such a special place in my heart. If I could only go to one con every year, it would be this one.

The main parenting challenge that I have is finding the appropriate way to guide my son through adversity. He is literally better at maths than I was at his age. But because of this, other "normal preschooler" things cause him frustration for being "too hard" because he doesn't naturally excel.

I have been flirting with burnout at work for a few weeks. The short story is that a major reorg happened at work, and months in no one really has any idea exactly who's responsible for what, which means there's been an incredible amount of micromanagement going on.

The furthest I've been is tricky since I've lived in two countries and have circumnavigated the world (I've crossed every line of longitude but not by going the same direction round the world), but here goes!

N: Skagway, Alaska, USA
S: Wellington, New Zealand
W: Dublin, Ireland
E: Naples, Italy
Furthest I've been:

N: Londan, England
S: Orlando, Florida
E: Venice, Italy
W: Tokyo, Japan

The whole East/West thing can be a bit arbitrary, but since I traveled West to get to Japan, that's what I'm counting it as
Furthest I’ve been:

N: Espoo, Finland
E: Helsinki, Finland / Krakow, Poland
S: Oranjestad, Aruba
W: Honolulu, Hawaii

Finally reached Room 46 of #BluePrince only to realise the hole goes SO. MUCH. DEEPER.
August 1, 2025 at 11:38 PM
I've been playing #BluePrince of late. It is a very rich but sometimes frustrating game. However, last night I uncovered some big clues that's starting to form big objectives, and I now have some definite direction in the game.

My 4yo son has figured out how to turn on the TV, turn on the Switch, boot up Mario Kart, get to a time trial, and (largely) get through a track. As a gamer, I am extremely proud. As a parent, I need to remember to keep the controllers on a high shelf. 🤣

I had a surreal moment this week. My 4yo LOVES numbers, and for his birthday he got a book about numbers and maths. Some of it is beyond him, but he loves it. Anyway, the page he wanted me to read was about fractals. Teaching my little one about the Mandelbrot set was definitely funny to me.

I’ve been holding back my feelings on this past week, waiting for a time to write. Now with some spare cycles, the need to journal has been overflowing. I used to journal lots to help myself understand and process my feelings. There are no easy answers here, but the process certainly helps.

Post the first game you played.

I can't say for certain that this is the first video game I ever played, but "Kaboom!" for the Atari 2600 was the first real game I remember spending hours upon hours getting good at.

This video put a lot of things into perspective for me. First it explains why BlueSky feels good. But it also puts into good and concise (for as concise as 35 minutes can be) of why I feel so against AI, algorithms, and the modern Internet. It is honestly worth everyone's time.

Today at the bookstore, I saw a section of Little Golden Books. But instead of cute, original tales, most were about celebrities (The Rock, the Bee-Gees, Bruce Springsteen) or Funko Pop Vinyl versions of TV shows (The Office). And I can't help but think, is this what selling out looks like?

Maybe I'm an old fogey. Every article I read about the potential death of TikTok feels like it is supposed to elicit my sympathy, but I've survived the death or wreckage of so many other social media platforms. Besides, my influencer days were convincing others Link should marry Zelda or something.

The Switch 2 has got to be one of the worst-kept secrets in the game industry.

My last stand of Christmas lights is dead. It was also covered in a strange oily substance that was super sus and probably, if I knew what it was, would solve the first mystery.
December 2, 2024 at 1:25 PM
Putting up all the Christmas lights is a challenge when the only days given to you to do so are either 37° days or utter deluges of rain.
December 1, 2024 at 7:45 PM
Getting ready for the annual Christmas light decorating tomorrow! But dang, why does it have to be 37° tomorrow? 🥵
