I'm pleased to report that as well as chard, I now have courgettes, runner beans and green beans from my late purchased replacement plants. Peas and broad beans have struggled with the heat, though there's a last push from the two broad bean plants that escaped the raids, which may lead to success.

I've decided chard goes with everything, though not yet started putting it in my porridge. Every other seed, excluding the fennel, got raided by whatever frequents my garden in the dark (shrews, rats or mice, possibly all three). The raiders left the chard alone and now it's doing very well!

The recent hot weather means when I breakfast on the patio there's the scent of honeysuckle, which at night becomes even stronger. A wonderful start to a day.

Reconnecting with my writing, day one. I'm not really writing much because there's not enough time or headspace. So, after an inspirational night out, I thought maybe I should just go back to already written things and start there. Here is something from 2015.

Current a.m. routine: get up; open front door to let out cats; cats look out door, look at me while applying a querying gaze questioning why exactly I have changed the weather to 'so very cold'; cats go out; cats turn round and race back in; I close door; issue food; cats ask to be let out; repeat.

Feels right for my first post to have a cat. He'd like me to put on the heating. Live with two cats, like writing and fell-running. Will be posting cat pics, under construction poetry and photos of big skies and heather. Also taking a very long while to study for an Applied English MA. Love books!
