It occurs to me that I don't usually post during prime time here in the states. Hi. I'm thejazztome.info and I have well over a million words about jazz history a few clicks away. 600+ albums of liner notes, reviews, and context. All for free! #jazzsky #musicsky
I share a January 10th birthday with percussionist and composer Max Roach. With all due respect to his incredible work with Clifford Brown, if I were to recommend one Max Roach record to listen to today it would be his Freedom Now Suite from 1961. thejazztome.info/max-roach-we... #jazzsky #musicsky

I'll never understand why round numbers are so cool, but I just hit 200 1957 albums on The Jazz Tome and I'm quite happy about it. #200 was J.J. Johnson's First Place on Columbia. There's guaranteed to be something here you've never heard before. thejazztome.info/the-year-1957/ #jazzsky #musicsky

I'm doing this for jazz critics from the 50s and 60s. Keeping their writing alive so that others can better enjoy the music.

Don't usually post unless I'm on a run of new albums. More rewarding, though, is finding an extra newspaper column to add to an existing page, like Fred Sherman in the Miami Herald about the Jimmy Giuffre 3. This enthusiasm is what makes me happy. thejazztome.info/jimmy-giuffr... #jazzsky #musicsky

Sleep isn't actually real, so I did another album. The more early jazz I hear, the more I appreciate artists like Jimmy Giuffre who had a clear vision for what he wanted to do with an album instead of just coordinating a blowing session. #jazzsky #musicsky thejazztome.info/jimmy-giuffr...

Was feeling productive, so I've added four new albums in the last 24 hours. Check out the What's New page. Big fan of the track Steeplechase on the Tour De Force album and the entire Bill Harris LP (which includes some incredible Ben Webster work). #jazzsky #musicsky thejazztome.info/whats-new/

hey thanks! was my first time on the radio, so I was nervous, but hopefully my passion came through. I believe people will get more out of the music if they're engaged with it. I go through phases; currently researching New Yorker reviews, will get back to adding new albums soon - watch What's New.

From our trip in 2021. My wife and I still randomly remark that "the Tetons do be Tetoning!"

Folks, this is the good shit. Through the magic of the internet (complimentary), my grandpa, 2,000 miles away, got to hear my radio interview from last week.

Thanks, that's very helpful. And yes, I'm glad I'm not the only person that's struggled with that search box. I finally just went through the 1957 issues one by one and found the 19 that had his byline. It's an arduous task.

I've been enjoying his writing lately, didn't realize he had an anthology that early on in his career.

🎁Well, it's birthday week! My goal for birthday week? Sell one print for every year I've trodden this earth, plus one for the year to come. 43 in all. Can I do it? Let's see!

(Now is also the time to place holiday orders so they actually arrive for the holidays!)

Excellent work. I need to get my act together and figure out what musician pages I want to add to my website. Might reach out soon about a commission, if you're interested in 50s/60s jazz.

Here's the interview I did about The Jazz Tome that aired on KMHD here in Portland this morning. I edited it down to just the six minutes of us talking for ease-of-listening. #jazzsky #musicsky youtu.be/M50BnGHD5hU

Tried to explain the interview to my 91 year old grandpa today. He wants to hear it, so now I need to try and get in touch with the one person he knows in his town that's technologically savvy enough to be able to pull up a website on their phone. It's turned into a Whole Thing.

Just had my interview about The Jazz Tome at @kmhd.org studios. Thought it went really well; Meg was kind and put me at ease. It will air at 9:30am pacific on Friday, along with some great tunes hand-picked by me. #jazzsky #musicsky

Might even take the data and do something silly like create a PowerBI report for the real sickos. I think I'm committed to the data challenge... gotta keep both sides of my brain happy.

Nothing really to say tonight, but I want to point out how awesome this album cover is. Haven't posted any new albums in a few days because I'm pursing my dream of creating a SQL database to hold albums and reviews to make it easier to keep track of my data. While I love music, I'm also a data nerd.

The low-angel Frieren meme is genuinely inspiring. Someone braver than the troops shares a picture they know turned out weird. Thousands start sharing their own art, offering advice and laughing together at something that is genuinely hard.

No ai to be seen --- just people supporting each other.

I don't make money from my website, it's purely a hobby, but a lot of people out there are hurting because of this shit. Frustrating that people can't see past their own nose.

Although webtraffic has been consistently devalued for a couple of decades now for a variety of reasons, stealing what traffic/money is left from creators in favor of a drunk robot that evaporates fresh water and burns down trees is actually a bad thing.

Got pulled into a convo about pros/cons of Al. Pulled up c*pilot and said "tell me who played on Zoot Sims Four Altos" and showed my team how the bot stripped the info out of my website and presented it instantly. Even though it's attributed, why then would anyone give me traffic? Blew their minds.
