why did i wait so long to see this? great early 00s backwoods #horror.

In this wildly improbable 2013 sequel, a Mexican couple who've been standing up to cartels seek refuge in Texas, only to encounter white supremacists empowered by government rhetoric and policies to enact ongoing violence against non-white people. How do filmmakers come up with this fanciful stuff?

This actually makes some cool choices. I’ll have to see the original, of which this is sort of a meta-reboot: it acknowledges the original movie as having been based on a true story that now continues.

In the thousand+ movies I remember watching, I’ve never seen a #horror film use real images to effectively convey a major plot point. In a brilliantly meta way, the vastly underrated Tales from the Hood 2 does this, both to tell its own story and honor the wishes of a grieving mother.
