A bat box a goldfinch and an apple tree. That bbq control panel looks like a spaceship console. In the village I begin to wonder if I should have worn wellies and a gilet. A zombie butler in the paper shop window. A woman with a cloud of peroxide blond hair and a sunny smile.

Amy arrives and more leaves take their leave. A skipful of house innards, a TrafalgarSquareful of pigeons. The cheese monger wheeling out her wares, the coffee monger putting out the chairs.
October 4, 2025 at 7:31 AM
A pedal-pushing pensioner. Two herons a few mallards moorhens. The house on the bridge has an unimaginative name so does the one with a clock. Blue plaques a plenty. Friends by the bus stop discussing Bramley apples. A woman wrestles her boxer away from something dead and smelly

Autumn colours the leaves warm and holds my hand cold. A farmer with a stubbly chin in a stubbly field. The stately droop of a giant willow. By the school a four by four disgorges three early learners. A cohort of coots cuts across the canal.

A woman with streaked hair a tie-dyed shirt and tattooed legs. Five navy blue hoodies on a washing line. Eryri’s serrated skyline. A black sheep in the heart of the flock, as it should be. A long-legged blondwoman and her long-legged greyhound lope past the post office.
August 8, 2025 at 6:48 AM
A woman with a phone sitting on top of a wall just told me that she’d “found a good G spot.” I *think* she meant to say that she’d “found a good 4G spot.”

A stentorian sneeze is a snotty wake up call for sleepy campers. A big black arrow on the side of a caravan points towards the front. Sea kayaks on a Land Rover. An angular agricultural machine at the edge of a field waiting, poised, like a metallic mantis.

That lobster pot could be a treasure chest. Those Terns are waiting in line. The fragile beauty of a fitfully fluttering butterfly. A rabbit pins a buzzard to the empty air, still as death. Flies gather round a sheep turd like iridescent diners at an all you can eat buffet.
August 6, 2025 at 8:33 AM
A woman with grey hair, grey pyjamas and bright orange lipstick. A rusty gate plays a creak symphony. My rusty Welsh makes the shopkeeper smile. That wool-strewn gorse hedge has been combing sheep. Sizzling sausages seize me by the nose.

Weekend Wander
A circuit board on a dash board. An abundance of bare legs, street cats a plenty, but a shortage of croissants. Two bald blokes with billiard ball heads, one white with a spot, the other shiny n red. The erect yellow nipple of a dropped dummy.

Weekend Wander
That low slung Lotus belongs to someone richer than I, & bendier. A stack of freshly excised joists, Jenga for builders. The neighbours’ fresh faced house shorn of its scaffolding stubble. A pigeon choir with a limited range, a minimalist rhythm & an anxious tone.

Weekend Wander
The thunderous mien of the scowling sky. A paper straw in a glass tumbler on a wooden planter by a plastic pub. The post office shutter stutters opens like the metal eye of a sleepy cyclops. No croissants at the Co-op. A song singing toddler paints a smile on my face.
June 14, 2025 at 7:45 AM
Weekend Wander
The tuneful trash talk of a brace of belligerent Robins. Three pigeons outside the health centre waiting patient-ly. The cheese monger arranges his wares Caerphilly. A pizzeria, and another one there. A fine Corsair by the barbers.

Midweek Meander
Rolling waves, wheeling gulls, spindrift dancing on the wind. Bovine base notes rumble round the organ-ic farm. Two footballs on a lawn - brightly coloured planets orbiting a birdbath. A road-mender’s pneumatic impactor makes a big impression on the sleepy street.

Midweek meander
A woodpecker rapping, a wren spitting bars, the sinuous solo of a skylark soprano. A grey pony emerges from a tangerine horse box & peels away. A cyclist with a handlebar moustache. The Baptist chapel bathed in sunlight, its Presbyterian neighbour looking elderly.

Midweek meander
The Monday streets are Sunday still. White horses out at sea, racing. A Whitethroat on a rock, singing. A woman in riding gear pushing a barrowload of tack. “I’m wrinkly and I squeak” says a little red sticker; “Me too” I think.
