Pregnant people living in states with abortion bans are almost twice as likely to die during pregnancy or shortly after giving birth, according to a new Gender Equity Policy Institute report.

The report found the risk is even higher for Black women in those states.

Well, no surprise here: A new study from the Gender Equity Policy Institute (GEPI) found that women are 2X as likely to die during pregnancy in states with abortion bans. Twice as likely.

Women living in states that banned abortion are 2x more likely to die during pregnancy, childbirth or soon after.

Black women in banned states were 3.3x as likely to die as white mothers in those states.

Another tragic story out of Texas. Porsha Ngumezi died because from a miscarriage, due to Texas's draconian abortion ban that denied her care. GEPI was proud to provide the data on maternal mortality to CBS Evening News for this story.
