Over the past couple of months, I heard CSO perform Bartók's only opera, BLUEBEARD'S CASTLE, and saw Michael Powell's 1963 film of the same, both of which sent me into a mild recent obsession with it. Recommended just in case you would like your Bartók celebration to have a murderous, operatic vibe.
today on Bartók's birthday I have already dialed up a couple of Hungarian mixcloud playlists with Bartók stuff and right now in the space before driving my son to school I am jamming "Concerto for Orchestra" (Reiner & CSO). You too can live this triumphant life. Happy birthday Bela Bartók!
