Experimenting with weaving a diptych. Since the two, separate pieces are meant to be displayed side by side, I'm trying to weave them side by side so they are the same length. I've temporarily laced them together with a removable mattress stitch so they don't skew or draw in more than necessary.

Want to guess what kind of remnants I used to make the dimensional bubbles in my latest water-inspired weaving project?

Big Lake Wave, Saimaan aallot, Over the Waves, Äänisjärven aallot, Love's Path, or rakkauden polku. No matter which name you prefer, this alernating, 3-shuttle Finnish rug weaving pattern is mesmerizing. As an "outsider" using upcycled home textiles in my artistic weaving, I especially enjoyed this letter from Paris. Thanks for taking us along on your textile adventures @franklinhabit.bsky.social! 😘
You've got a Letter from Paris at Modern Daily Knitting. Away from the crowds and the hype, a challenging, fascinating exhibit of textile art hidden in plain sight.

#One red leaf standing out was the inspiration for one of my recent handwoven art works. However, the leaf transformed into something unexpected on the loom. 1/2

Yeah... I started the day by dumping out my bin of tiny fabric bits and proceeded to sort them by color so it will be easier to incorporate them into a new project. I sure hope it works out like I am envisioning.

The things we do for art! 🤪

Currently reading "The Fabric of Civilization How Textiles Made the World" for the second time. Interesting how something most people now take for granted has had such an impact on history, culture and exploration around the world.

For me, the last week of the year is all about wrapping up loose ends, at home and in the studio. I spent much of Thursday and Friday hemming and hand stitching a batch of freshly handwoven rag rugs.

Intermarché’s viral ad is a sweet reminder this holiday season that creativity and compassion go hand in hand.

I think I upcycled about a dozen old t-shirts to weave this "Trail Mix" rag rug. It's always fun to see how the colors worked out after I pull a rug off the loom and this one did not disappoint! 😍

"Almost Home" was one of my favorite weaving projects of the year. I like the minimalist composition and I feel like I've finally solved the technical issues I was having with both tapestry weaving and working with upcycled fabrics.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that it's been so long since I cast on a knitting project I forgot where I put my yarn winder. I circled my studio like a kid playing I Spy, but finally found it. 🤣

Can you find the ball winder?

It's always nice to see the representation of textiles in the art world.
'Thread Count,' a large-scale group exhibition at The Hole, illuminates the beguiling nature of textiles and celebrates the legacy of Anni Albers.

It's been awhile since I read "The Fabric of Civilization How Textiles Made the World" by Virginia Postrel, but after watching this interview with the author I just pulled it off my shelf to revisit.

A little sad to part with this CPW because it's really fun to spin on, but it was time for me to thin the herd. Glad it found a good home.

A little bit of sparkle on the leaves to brighten up what's been a rather gloomy week. I've already started sketching ideas about how to represent this blingy foliage in my weaving. Can't wait to get it on the loom!

Today in the journal I'm crossing over the liminal space between the noise of the world and the calm of home with a handwoven piece called "Almost Home". See how many squirrels 🐿you can find in my inspiration photo. 🤣

I spend a lot of time thinking about waste as I use discarded home textiles to weave pieces of art. Listening to this program made me determined to double down on my efforts to minimize the amount of plastic that comes into our home.
"Only waste travels from rich countries to poor, and the supply is endless." When journalist @alexclapp.bsky.social began exploring the waste trade, he found it resembled something he had written about before: the drug market.
Where Does Plastic And Other Trash Go After We Throw It Away?
A journalist traveled to five continents to learn about the afterlife of our trash, and why most “recyclable” plastic actually isn’t.

Today's journal entry is an artistic Saturday Escape. This is my experiment in Finnish style raanu rug weaving. The piece is inspired by nature, but I give it my own twist by using upcycled fabrics from the thrift store instead of natural dyed wool.
