Educator. Bibliophile. Musician. Triathlete. PhD. TTRPG enthusiast. I have no hot takes.
I recently found a working iPod classic among some miscellaneous cables. There's something about listening to music knowing there won't be any interrupting notifications.

Saturday means new tires, an oil change, and grading. If I'm lucky, I'll also get to watch some Critical Role.

For whatever reason, I forgot that I knew how to write. This homework thing is still for the birds, though.

ls it weird that I've missed using language that I associate with the academic discourse of higher education? I'm doing homework and finding myself utilizing vocabulary and syntax that I don't use in my everyday writing (i.e., work emails).

I’ve not been listening to a lot of music lately, but I’m glad I listened to this. youtu.be/gbljPQbxtTQ?...

…and I still do it wrong every time…
“I before e, except after c…”

…unless your neighbor weighs his eight-year-old in a sleigh.

This "rule" is best thought of as an easy way to remember the spelling pattern of words that came to English from French.
receive
perceive
conceive
deceive
deceit
conceit

Somehow I've managed to find myself back in graduate school. I could have sworn I was done with the student side of academia.

So much for "I'm not going to be a principal, so I don't need an admin license."

Joke's on me. Assistant Directors of Curriculum & Instruction need them too.

Today I am grateful for book club.

Between a new job, an extra class at a second job, and things at home, I’ve been in a bit of a funk. I’m generally not connecting with people the way I like to. The #ALANReads Book Club allowed me to do that today and has helped me remember why I like reading in…

Just finished watching My Neighbor Totoro for the first time. I’m wondering now about my life choices. How was it that I had never seen this movie?

“Do you think that’s fair? Really? You think that’s fair. To beg to be allowed to live?” @aabria.bsky.social as Suvi in @worldsbeyondnumber.bsky.social Episode 11 “Promises Promises.”

Submitted without further comment because I just don’t have the words right now.

Today I am grateful for creativity.

I, with the help of roll tables from Perilous Wilds, wrote a Dungeon World session for my wife and friends that they enjoyed. I find comfort in the creation process and satisfaction in their enjoyment.

So glad I’m not sleeping on @dropouttv.bsky.social anymore. Thanks, @aperezrojas.bsky.social.

Also, Dungeons & Drag Queens makes me want to port our current DW campaign over just for a little more narrative crunchiness.

@andrealrogers.bsky.social I just started listening to the narrative play podcast Worlds Beyond Number. If your dungeon master kiddo isn't already listening to it, 10/10 would recommend.

Today I am grateful for the Chuck It.

A very simple thing that brings me joy is watching my 3 year old shih tzu run full out. He chases the ball. I watch him run. My shoulder doesn’t hurt at the end of a play session. Wins all around.

Something interesting you might not have realized: a number of words in English are nouns when you stress the first syllable but verbs when you stress the second.

2024 in Books

This year I’ve added a new purpose for reading to my list of purposes: fodder for the games I’m GMing. It’s surprisingly awesome. I’m contemplating listing some of the ideas I pull in this space in the future. But without further ado, here’s my 2024 in books, pulled from The…
