Tariffs have been delayed a month for Mexico after Claudia Sheinbaum promises to send 10k troops to the MX-US border. IMO she made the right move feeding Trump’s showboating with something he can wave around as a win. Diplomacy & negotiation over destroying relationships in the name of “power”.

Trump will be signing 50-100 executive orders after his inauguration. Included in this will likely be some concerning tariffs. I’ll be following closely & will be explaining possible impact for consumers - stay tuned!

The wording of this announcement is extremely worrying. Even if you don’t use TikTok this is showing us what our media, will be like. Be CAREFUL what you consume. Understand that your algorithm will be manipulated and remind yourself regularly. Build networks of ppl you trust to keep you informed.

There are 100s, if not 1000s of US companies behind brands you buy in store -incl generic store brands. They all manufacture in average qtys of 3k to 10k units per order. This is tiny & these small US companies are supported by 1000s of small factories in China, not big mega-factories like Foxconn.

Freight costs also significantly affect prices you see in stores. In addition to tariffs, we expect to see rising freight costs due to increased imports before tariffs are put in place, possibly close to pandemic levels. We are talking $1,200 per container rising to $12,000 per container.

Trump has announced 25% tariffs on ALL Mexican & Canadian goods. We will wait & see if this actually passes, but Mexico does not have the ability to comply with his demands. It will just cause economic hardship for Mexicans…AND Americans.

Shipping container prices are expected to increase in the coming months before any tariffs are passed by the incoming administration, because stores are buying more goods to cover a longer period of time. This will also affect prices in stores due to higher shipping costs.

How do tariffs affect the price of products in stores? A tariff is an import tax paid by the importer to the US government. The importer needs to raise costs to cover this new expense. This means the cost also gets raised for the consumer (you & me!) so the retailer can cover these higher costs.

Manufacturing won’t return to the US. One reason is lack of manpower. China has 1.4 billion people, with over 100 cities with more than 1 million people, some of those over 20 million. We don’t even come close in the US with our meager 345 million people total. Who is going to work in the factories?

Tariffs replacing income tax? Tariffs cause in-store prices to surge, so who is going to suffer more? Lower & middle income people save a few thousand in taxes, but pay much more in store. I can guarantee the top 1% barely knows the price of bread and doesn’t care how high prices go for you and I.
