I'll get online at about 6:30 PT for some more @defector.com crosswords. I know it's a sad time in the Defector community right now, but hopefully we can have some fun. www.twitch.tv/thatpuzzleguy

A friend of mine was recently falsely accused of a very serious crime because of shit like this. Knock it off.
I'm already seeing people on here use AI face tools to try to identify the masked ICE agent in Minneapolis. It's a truly terrible idea and here's why

I have to say, I’m really not thrilled that my country is devolving into a lawless gangster state abroad, and at home, one officially dead set on destroying science, art, and any shared feeling of common humanity

For those breathlessly anticipating my next Twitch game: well, first off, you need another hobby.

Was all set to start Firmament (a Cyan game released in 2023) until I ran into some driver issues. Sorted them out, but I don't feel like cracking into it this late. Soon!

450+ hours of play later, I've done everything there is to do in this game (aside from the platinum times on all the Flow Orbs and Glide Rings, which I have no desire to try for). Thanks to everyone who watched along the way, as well as to the amazing designers of the unofficial mod.

Took four flights this month (OAK-LGB and SFO-BOS round trips) and all went very well. Balance restored. Hoping the run will continue in a few weeks for Mystery Hunt.

But I did manage to solve the final meta, which I honestly didn't think I would. I enjoyed that the entry form asks if you have a home computer. Deadline for entries: July 31, 1996. Maybe if I tell them I was busy?

The 49 were easy and definitely at least somewhat musty. The way to get the pair of letters was a bit silly. Shamelessly Googled my way through #50; it was still very hard and there remain several clues I don't understand. Can't imagine how people solved it in the days of very early internet.

Solve 49 crosswords, derive two letters from each in a manner to be determined, plug those in to get a message, apply the message to the brutally hard #50.

Over the holiday break, I whipped through a book I must have picked up from an NPL convention prize table at some point: $10,000 Crossword Challenge (1996).

I survived the Mariahpocalypse. I thought it was a literally impossible task. But, somehow, I've done it.
