Come chat with us about all things fantasy gaming over at the Thac0 with advantage discord. We talk Daggerheart, DnD, Draw Steel, Dragonbane, pick a fantasy game that starts with a D in it and we probably talk about it.

RPG Tip: Give factions distinct voices. Different slang, accents, or dress make them stand out. This one is a bit of work but the payoff is worth it. #DnD #TTRPG

RPG Tip: Show factions in daily life. Merchants, priests, and soldiers doing their jobs in the setting remind players of power structures and that it's a world their living in. #DnD #TTRPG

RPG Tip: Tie factions to player backstories. A guild or cult feels stronger when it matters personally. #DnD #TTRPG
December 29, 2025 at 1:21 PM
RPG Tip: Let factions evolve. Victories and defeats should shift their influence in the world. Because we have DM/GMs this idea and how the setting can change based on PC actions ends up being a core feature of the TTRPG experience. #DnD #TTRPG

RPG Tip: Create rivalries between groups. Conflict between allied NPC groups can be just as fun as fighting enemies. #DnD #TTRPG

RPG Tip: Make factions flawed. A noble order may still be corrupt or divided. #DnD #TTRPG

Happy holidays from all of us at Thac0 with Advantage. We hope you have an enjoyable time with your loved ones this holiday season.
December 25, 2025 at 2:29 PM
RPG TIP: It's ok to take a break from gaming once in a while for whatever reason, and the holidays can be a good reason. Just make sure you have that next session scheduled. #DnD #TTRPG

RPG Tip: Make factions flawed. A noble order may still be corrupt or divided. #DnD #TTRPG
December 23, 2025 at 3:23 PM
RPG Tip: Connect puzzles to multiple sets of stakes if possible. Solving them feels better if it matters beyond opening a door. #DnD #TTRPG
December 22, 2025 at 11:56 PM
RPG Tip: Vary puzzle difficulty. Mix simple riddles with complex challenges for balance but always make sure there's a way forward if they fail. #DnD #TTRPG
December 21, 2025 at 9:30 PM
RPG Tip: Foreshadow puzzles with clues. A rhyme in a tavern song may unlock a tomb later. And find someway to remind them if they forget, or at the very least give their characters a chance to roll to remember if the player doesn't. Unless you want memory games to be a part of your game #DnD #TTRPG

RPG Tip: Allow for partial success. Even if the PCs fail, let progress open new paths for the party to traverse. #DnD #TTRPG
December 19, 2025 at 3:28 PM
RPG Tip: Make puzzles thematic. A dragon’s lair puzzle should feel fiery and dangerous. #DnD #TTRPG
December 18, 2025 at 2:29 PM
RPG Tip: Add time pressure to puzzles. Solving while water rises, the ceiling lowers, or enemies approach builds tension. #DnD #TTRPG
December 17, 2025 at 2:49 PM
RPG Tip: Use props for puzzles. A handout or token makes the challenge tactile. Players also enjoy manipulating things in my experience. #DnD #TTRPG
December 16, 2025 at 3:23 PM
RPG Tip: Reward teamwork in puzzles. Success should come from sharing ideas, not just one solver. #DnD #TTRPG
December 15, 2025 at 1:21 PM
RPG Tip: Make puzzles part of the fiction. Runes on a tomb or gears in a dwarven vault feel natural and not just something random from our world inserted into the game space. #DnD #TTRPG
December 13, 2025 at 2:04 PM
RPG Tip: Create puzzles with multiple solutions. Let clever thinking, magic, or brute force all work. You can even just create a puzzle-like encounter without coming up with an answer and let the answer be discovered by the players through play. #DnD #TTRPG
December 13, 2025 at 1:26 AM
RPG Tip: Balance gold with story rewards. Land, titles, or allies can be equally or more powerful and can impact how the game is played. #DnD #TTRPG
December 12, 2025 at 3:28 PM
RPG Tip: Use treasure as a hook. A stolen item or coveted relic can spark whole adventures. I love a good Macguffin as a hook. Even better if the Macguffin has some other value as treasure. #DnD #TTRPG
December 12, 2025 at 1:10 AM
RPG Tip: Reward knowledge. A discovered map or ancient lore can be as valuable as gold. If you want the seeking of knowledge to be a main point of your game then the map or lore should be more valuable than gold. #DnD #TTRPG
December 11, 2025 at 2:29 PM
RPG Tip: Make treasure a temptation. A cursed gem or dark artifact forces tough choices. The trick is to make the benefit worth it and the downside a risk. Use the item, roll a d20, on a 1 bad things happen. Next time, on a 1 or 2 bad things happen. #DnD #TTRPG
December 11, 2025 at 1:33 AM
RPG Tip: Include consumables. One use items are great because they can do interesting things and encourage creative play. Plus, an item which lets you teleport once has a very different impact from an item that lets you teleport multiple times per day. #DnD #TTRPG
December 10, 2025 at 2:49 PM
RPG Tip: Let treasure hint at history. A broken crown of a recently destroyed kingdom or the shattered idol of a cult adds depth to your world. #DnD #TTRPG
