Classical randomized controlled trials (RCTs) can't capture the complexity of psychedelic therapy.
In this new paper led by @sdmuthu.bsky.social and @tehseennoorani.bsky.social, we argue for pragmatic trials designs that accommodate this complexity and better align with real-world clinical practice.

How much is the psychedelic experience influenced by what we see, hear and read? We made a way to measure it: The Psychedelic Media Exposure Questionnaire - developed by Audrey Evers, Chris Kelly, @shaylalove.bsky.social , @tehseennoorani.bsky.social, validated on >600 respondents. Link below:

A promising approach
Glad to see this paper out finally. Well done @trpwolff.bsky.social for driving it!

I think this idea has potential for significant impact in psychedelic drug development.

This was a great read and I'm sorry to have missed it until now. Offers a "rendi epistemology", reviving the lost figure of the rend - the “pious rogue” of Islamicate drug histories - as a way of moving beyond coloniality/modernity in drug studies

Abstract This article establishes a conceptual framework for decolonial drug histories and, at the same time, moves beyond decolonization. It brings back the radical alterity of historical figures of ...

Australia was the first country to permit prescribing MDMA outside clinical trials. This creates a fascinating situation where a treatment is accessible but no approved products exist. This is important to watch as it might tell us something about what will happen in the US when FDA approval occurs.

Ironically, this is most evident whenever the authors apparently aim to differentiate their model from (their idea of) psychotherapy, e.g.:
