Serious question, so please understand that I'm not being flippant, or a Clever Dick when I ask why the checks and balances, which were put in place 250 years ago haven't seemed to apply to the current president and his administration. Or am I not seeing the whole picture?

Just a thought. Maybe the Danish airforce airdropping copies of 'The Emperor's New Clothes' over the White House while blasting Danny Kaye singing 'Wonderful Copenhagen'would bring a bit of sanity into the current situation.

My personal view from the UK is, I'm getting thoroughly cheesed off with the effect that an embittered old scoundrel is having on the rest of us. Big villain takes out little villain in oil grab. Isn't restoring democracy to Venezuela, and leaves us weaker in the eyes of authoritarians everywhere.

I am no fan of Maduro. I believe in democracy, and Maduro is no democrat.Trump too is no democrat, he wants oil, increased wealth for family and followers, and is getting a free hand to achieve his goal. Looking from outside, the US is in a bad place, and if the US sneezes, the world catches a cold.

Does he truely understand anything about anything, other than his own self interest. It sounds more than deluded to believe that Putin has any generous feelings towards Ukraine.

I think it is an expression that would echi on the faces of millions in Europe on hearing such self-centred rubbish.Trump seems more preoccupied with parroting the Kremlin narrative and regurgitating his 2020 election crap than he is in helping bring a peaceful end to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Absolutely agree with most of this, but would argue that the term 'man' implies that he posesses some humanity. Which he proved singularly lacking in as PM.

Typical move from Trump. He's got no interest in old alliences, honesty, democracy or decency. His decisions depend solely on personal gain and enriching his family. His 'word' means nothing, an embittered, sad chancer of the highest order. He's just an old Putin pleasing Scrooge.

I find it difficult, looking from the outside to understand where all your leaders hatred and malice towards the rest of us comes from. America has shared so much with the world, and has been a becon for culture and science throughout my lifetime. Visiting the USA holds no appeal for me any more.

Your article hits the nail squarely on the head. Trump's betrayal of long standing ali's in favour of a ruthless dictator, and disregard for all those who gave (and continue to give) their lives in defence of democracy will leave a lasting stain on how your nation is seen by many around the world.
