Super excited that my speculative sci-fi story "Cool the Grass" is out in the Dec. 2025 issue of Black Sheep: Unique Tales of Terror and Wonder. It's available in Kindle and paperback editions from Hobb's End Press. www.amazon.com/dp/B0G25YW2L...

With the recent release of Guillermo del Toro's #Frankenstein (which I greatly admire), it may be an opportune moment to remind #readers of my well-received sequel to Mary Shelley's original, Mrs Saville.

Aspiring Child will be released Jan. 1 (the same date Frankenstein was released in 1818), and presale begins Dec. 1. I'm honored that so many of the sonnets found good homes in several journals and anthologies in just the few short months I was circulating them.

Been taking a deep dive into the history of #vampires in recent months. The scholarly work of Sir Christopher Frayling has proved invaluable -- not to mention fascinating and enthralling.

For reasons that are unclear (the change of seasons?), my debut novel Men of Winter (2010) has attracted some new attention of late. It is a (strange) sequel to Homer's Odyssey set in a (strange) Siberia-esque wasteland. I won't look a gift reader in the mouth.

The metadata says our live #podcast has been attracting a lot of eyeballs and ears on YouTube and Spotify (especially). We talk #vampire fiction & film for 30 minutes then open it up to some terrific questions. Check out A Lesson before Writing Episode 28, live in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

A Happy Marine Corps Birthday indeed! I can’t thank you enough for the opportunity. Thanks also to @tedmorrissey.bsky.social, a past professor of mine who once suggested that Tortoise Books might be a good fit for my memoir. Looks like Tortoise Books agreed. Thanks Ted, and thanks again, Jerry!

The #video I made about transitioning from writing short stories to writing novels has been well received so far -- and it's definitely a lesson about #writing -- so I turned it into Bonus Episode 8 of the #podcast, uploading the audio to Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

In this #video I made for my students @lindenwoodmfa.bsky.social I talk about #writers who are anxious about transitioning from writing short stories to writing #novels -- and I suggest some strategies for making that leap seem more manageable. youtu.be/nV7d3i9TCb8

I received the proof of my contribution to Fearful Symmetries. The publication has reenergized my interest in my novel in progress inspired by the life and writings of Edgar Allan Poe. The manuscript has sat at 22,000 words for a couple of years. It's time to return to it.

Nowadays we take copyright for granted (AI aside), but it took a long while for international copyright laws to be negotiated and codified. In the mid-1800s pirating foreign books was just a savvy business strategy.

Our #podcast is mainly about helping other writers, especially those who may be newer to #writing and #publishing - but it's always nice to get a few of our #books into the hands of #readers

The #podcast crew was on a tear in October, uploading three episodes in a matter of days. We won't be recording Episode 29 until the end of November - in the meantime check out these three new episodes.

Our special episode of the #podcast that we recorded before a live audience (a packed house in fact) is now available on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts. It was great fun! twelvewinters.com/a-lesson-bef...

What fun! We recorded Episode 28 (our Halloween special) last night in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in front of a packed house. Watch for the #podcast episode to drop this weekend.

After spending a month going through my #poetry collection practically every day, I think I've made the final changes to the proof copy. Aspiring Child will go on presale Dec. 1. for a Jan. 1 release (the same day, not coincidentally, #Frankenstein was officially released in 1818).

Podcasters assemble! The #podcast crew will be in Cedar Falls, IA, Thursday evening to record Episode 28 in front of a live audience. We'll have a somewhat different format that will include taking questions from the audience members. I know we'll have a terrifyingly good time!

What a hoot! Getting to talk about William Gass for a couple of hours with the hosts of Two Month Review #podcast - I'll likely join them for another episode or two while they dig their way through The Tunnel
October 28, 2025 at 9:38 PM
Super excited about joining the co-hosts of the Two Month Review #podcast later today to discuss the second section of William Gass's The Tunnel. I've enjoyed listening to their discussion of the opening section.

An impromptu treat! Brady and Grant recorded their conversation about Grant's new Hayden Fuller Mystery and other work without intending for it to become public. But it's so good I twisted their arms to let me upload it as Bonus Episode 7 of our #podcast. I know you'll enjoy it as much I do.

Poe frequently experienced the deaths of loved ones, but that was common for people living in the nineteenth century. And he was an alcoholic, but one that could abstain from drink for months at a time. He had issues, but he wasn't the morose and demented figure we tend to see him as today.

The #podcast crew will be all together a week from tonight in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to record an episode with a live audience. We haven't been together in the same space since 2022. Thanks to Jim O'Loughlin and the Final Thursday Reading Series for the invitation and arrangements!
