On this day in 1903 in North Carolina, the Wright brothers made the first sustained motorised flight for 12 seconds! Orville piloted the plane while Wilbur ran alongside the craft.

Today and tomorrow (13/14 Dec), the Geminid meteor shower will be peaking in the skies… this meteor shower is known for being bright and colourful, made up of debris trailing the asteroid 3200 Phaethon.

On this day 1815, Ada Lovelace was born.

In 1843, she wrote what’s widely recognised as the world’s first computer program, decades before computers as we know them existed!

Her insight that machines could follow instructions (and even be creative!) laid foundations for modern computing 💻
