Now here starts my 2025 media thread! First time doing this here on Bluesky and my 2nd time doing this overall
As for another thing I was curious about, I spent some time restoring some unused debug functionality in Splatoon 1's final boss against Octavio that draws various debugging info for his fight on screen such as the current state, distance from the player, current phase, etc

So uh 2025:
- Properly got into programming and learned C++, Python, and C# (largely the former)
- Experienced my first ever console launch with me getting the Switch 2 on day 1
- Got into Archipelago randomizers
- Developed my own Splatoon 1 randomizer which got me into REing

Aight here’s my SU movie review a few weeks later: Overall I had a good time, the songs were great and has some of the best songs of the entire series, Spinel was a fantastic character and it overall provided some great fanservice for those who stuck along since the start. 8/10

Now I plan on adding some kind of modifier for the item rando so that it less favors power-up items such as the armor and canned specials so it won’t be too easy after getting some feedback in the splatoon speedrunning discord

I haven't posted in this thread in months but no this project isn't dead; I've been working on this slowly in the background as I've been continuing to RE the game for my Archipelago implementation which I've posted some things about, and I've been working on updates to the main rando itself.

recently I’ve been working on a mod that reenables the built in dev freecam in splatoon 1 that’s apart of agl, nintendo ead’s graphics library used in this game and many of their other titles, i’d like to release it after making some changes to make it more convenient

After an hour or so of writing headers (just enough so I could do this) later, I made a thing that allows you to unlock levels at whatever conditional you want, such as receiving item unlocks for a potential Splatoon Archipelago implementation! (more technical details down below)

Just got a rough prototype working for my message receiving system for my Splatoon 1 Archipelago mod that I've been working on this weekend, there's still a lot I have to do but it's nice to have a PoC, the messages are currently being sent over UDP but I'll have to switch to websockets soonish

spent some time yesterday looking into Splatoon 1’s debug text drawing features that's apart of sead (essentially Nintendo’s implementation of the C++ STL) and now I can do this, this is nice for my Archipelago mod

oh man did it not disappoint, easily my favorite indie pilot of the year. I want to do a more in-depth review later on but for first impressions I'll say that the characters are really engaging, the art direction and animation is phenomenal, and in general I really enjoyed the mystery and horror
