I think we're all familiar with the sociological concept known as the glass ceiling, but did you know that there is a concept called the glass escalator? This is where men rise to the top quickly in female dominated fields. (explained in Forbes, 2012) www.forbes.com/sites/jennag...

During the Gilded Age (1870s-1900), forensic psychologists were known as alienists (since psychology was just forming as a discipline in the 1870s). Alienists assessed whether or not a defendant was competent to stand trial, or, if already found guilty, should be placed in an asylum for sentencing.
