For educator Virginia Coleman, the answer is clear – ask the Ss what they need!
"One time my lesson was NOT connecting with my 6th grade class. I struggled a few more minutes but finally gave up and literally tossed my planning book across the room, looked at my students and said, “Let’s talk about this subject tomorrow. Right now I need you to help me understand what went wrong. Where did I lose you?” What followed was a great discussion about what they understood and why my lesson didn’t click for them.
